Good for beginner, adapter sold separately

The keyboard has good sound quality and easy enough to use for a beginner. The directions in the manual are easy to follow. The only major downside is that you have to buy the adapter separately. I was a little disappointed that this product isn't available in all the stores in my area so I had to make a field trip to pick it up.

Good Keyboard for beginners

I bought this keyboard about two - three weeks ago and I really like it. I'm teaching myself to play and read music on it and so far it's working great. The learning system on it is pretty cool, I've taught myself half of pachabells cannon on it and that's with only practicing one or two times a week. It doesn't come with an adapter which is a pain because the adapter itself was 11 dollars. I was happy when I saw that it had a headphone jack (in a house of four it'd be nice to plug in some headphones to either blockout other noise or practice after everyone is in bed) but it's not a normal headphone jack and I haven't gotten around to buying a converter or whatever it is I need. All in all it's a good product especially for a beginner. If you have the money go with a better one but for the price it's really good.

Great beginning keyboard

I'm an adult who never took piano lessons as a kid. Now that I'm taking a course, I got this keyboard to practice at home. It's very basic, but it has what I need to keep up with my lessons. Actually, it has quite a bit more functionality than I need or want. Maybe I'll learn how to use it all someday, but for now I can easily ignore it. BOTTOM LINE: A good basic keyboard for a good price. DON'T FORGET TO BUY THE A/C ADAPTER, SOLD SEPARATELY!

I am happy with my purchase. Good quality of sound. Can't complain much for the price that I paid even there is no adapter inside. You can find adapter in Best buy under Dynex DX-Y1110 for only $9.99. If not because of the open box price, I might rather pay a little more to get better quality model. Overall, great buy for the beginner like me.

These is a good keyboard and I do not really have any problems with it. I do think the key could be a little more sensitive and the keyboard does not come with a power adapter which is a big problem. I like all of the different features and sounds that are on it. It is a good price compared to other board and which what all you get. I would recommend this keyboard for someone who is looking for something to mess around on.

Great for the price

I was looking for something to record on my computer software. It sounds really great and has so many different sounds/voices. My grandson especially liked the gunshots and fireworks. The strings section is absolutely beautiful. I know the keys don't compare to a full key/expensive/weighted one, but since I'm not an accomplished player I can't tell the difference and couldn't play all the keys on a full keyboard anyway. I'm really a guitar player and am used to transposing chords with a capo, so when I found it had this I was really excited. I didn't see it in the ad.

Exceptional keyboard for beginner's

I'm a novice learning to play the piano so I picked this up after much research. This is great for a beginner like me, but I'm sure if you are fluent in piano playing this won't suit you since the keys are nothing like a piano's. I know Yamaha has a great reputation regarding sound quality (isn't that what music is about) so of course I was happy regarding the sound. Only drawback is of course you have to buy an adapter (and stand if you wish). The MIDI cable to connect to your computer (which I haven't done yet, but hear it's compatible with Mac's - another plus for me) is not included either. Also, the digital screen is tiny and has no backlight and in order to use headphones you need a converter for that as well. All in all, this is a great keyboard to play around with - fun!

Okay, not for advanced player

I have been playing the piano for eight years, and I recently bought this keyboard. It was a lot of fun playing with the sound effects and the sound quality is pretty good. However, if you're a more advanced player, I suggest getting a keyboard with touch-sensitive keys to get the volume control you need for many songs.
Other than that, and that it didn't come with an adapter (sold seperately), I love this keyboard.

A very good keyboard for starters!

I have used this keyboard many times before. I do not own one, but there are several of them in my school. They are not big and complicated, and allow easy accesibility. These keyboards have keys that are not weighted, which is just fine for someone who is just starting out. However, if you decide you want to get very involved in creating your music for a piano's standard, then you should probably aim for a keyboard with either weighted keys or semi-weighted keys. Yamaha offers plenty of weighted and semi-weighted keyboards for you to begin playing.

Great Product!!

The sound quality of this keyboad is great. I had someone go with me to make sure I was purchasing a good product for my buck. To test the product he played a song on this keyboard and a Casio Model LK220AD. And it was a huge different between the two at the same settings. There is one other downfall and it does not come with a power adapter. Per the box it says to purchase a PA-3B and PA-3C. NOTE: The store had the keyboard powered with a Yamaha PA-150 Power Adapter so I purchased the same and it works great.

No Adapter!

I was surprised at no adapter, but figured it was my fault for not reading the description well enough. The problem is, I have now gone to 3 stores and cannot find one! So, I ordered one online. But....it seems that it should be an included item. When's the last time you bought a TV or some other electronic device, and a cord didn't come with it???? Yamaha can charge an extra ten bucks and throw one in, and save their customers the frustration of not being able to use the keyboard when they get it.

Keyboard was a great choice for our 5 year old daughter to begin learning on, however, we were extremely disappointed that it did not come with an adapter. Would not expect that from Yamaha.

Great Keyboard for the $$$

Great piano/keyboard for first-timers. I use this keyboard for playing music as well as playing plug-in instruments on my computer. If you are into playing around with music programs on your computer or learning how to play the piano then this is the keyboard for you. If you are a professional artist I would go for another one. All in all though, this is definitely a recommendable keyboard for its value.

I mean come on as if Yamaha doesn't have enough money they have to disappoint every one and screw them out the MIDI Cables and the A/C Adapter... I agree with some one else's review.... When has any one bought a TV,DVD Player, VCR, Cd player or any thing else electronic and it did not come with a power supply.

Excellent device

I got this product on sale shortly after Christmas. I am a piano novice to the highest degree, so I was just looking for a basic keyboard that will allow me to begin learning how to play. This device fits the bill perfectly, and even has several other useful features that I think will come in handy as I continue my lessons. In particular, it has a LCD screen that displays which notes you are playing on the grand staff, which is pretty cool. Also, the Portable Grand Feature does indeed sound like a real piano to me (but keep in mind, I am a beginner).
Like the other reviews have said, yes you need to buy your own AC adapter. Best Buy does sell a non-Yamaha adapter that works with this device; simply look up the Dynex PA-3 type adapter, and you're good to go.
Besides the whole adapter issue, I think that this is an excellent device for the money, and recommend it to anyone.

This is the first keyboard I got, and it works great. It was a birthday present and even though I was hoping for other stuff, I'm very happy with it now! It sounds terrific and friends and family are always impressed!

I, too, was very disappointed to find that there was no AC adapter. And I didn't notice it on the box, either! Thank goodness I had stocked up on AA batteries for other games. I just hope they hold up until I can get an adapter.

purchased this product as a christmas present for my wife. was very surprised and upset she could not use it when she opened it and found no ac power adapter. Instructions say to purchase separately give a part number or equivalent but no specs on what an equivalent part might be. Very poor merchandising.
