I have an old Canon Rebel T3i (from 2011), and my first lens was the inexpensive but amazing 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Although I eventually moved to another camera ecosystem (Sony), I still enjoy breaking out my old cameras. I decided to take a chance on bringing the Rebel to photograph a recent event but needed a decent wide angle lens. (It was a comic convention, so pics were of cosplayers like misselliehoneybee and mayan.goddess on IG.) This 24mm f/2.8 lens went on sale, and I also had a coupon and rewards points that knocked off another 25% off. But this lens surprised me with how awesome the images it captured were. Very little distortion for a wide angle “pancake” lens and very sharp with great colors. It’s small size paired with the light weight of the Rebel made it just as much a joy to use as my Sony mirrorless camera system. I ended up using it 95% of the time compared to the 50mm lens. I highly recommend this lens if you’re using Canon’s line of APS-C crop sensor cameras.

I bought this lens to complement the 50mm lens that i have in my kit (along with my 10-24, my 18-55, 55-250, and my 18-200 lenses). Although zoom lenses have their place, low light photography is not one of them (unless you are spending SERIOUS money). On a C sensor Canon camera - namely any of the T series (T4, T3i, T4, T4i, T5, T5i), D70, D80 or SL1, this lens works like a 35mm lens on a full size sensor camera. With an f2.8 you can open it up all the way to do low light shooting, as well as being able to do portrait shooting with a good blur on the back ground. Photos through this lens are sharp at all f stops. Additionally it has the same diameter as the f1.8 50mm lens (52mm) so you can use the same filters on both lenses When coupled to the SL1 (a light camera to start with) it becomes a combo that is lighter than some "all in one" cameras,

An incredible little pancake lens, to use for wider shots. Even on my cropped sensor its distance feels true to eye(i dont have to step back to have my camera see what im seeing). Affordable Sharp And Refreshing in its versatility.
