I read a lot of reviews when it comes to spending my money on gadgets, especially routers that are expensive like this one. Let me just say that this is well worth the money! I have Cox as my internet provider and the default router/modem they gave me was absolute garbage. I could barely get Wifi throughout my apartment (only 1200 sq. ft.). However, I bought this router based on the great reviews and it impressed me. I was able not only to get WiFi anywhere in my house, I could get it a few houses down! I pay for extremely fast internet and with this router, it feels like I'm getting my money's worth. I used to game/stream a lot and the configuration settings helped me prioritize gaming and get the best connection possible. You can also prioritize streaming or other devices as well! The amount of features are great and I would definitely recommend this router to anyone looking to upgrade. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY!

Was looking to replace my Netgear "N" router that was several years old with a new "AC" router to get better range and wireless speeds throughout our new house. Also picked up a couple of Netgear AC adapters for two of our wireless PC's.
In a word...WOW! I should have upgraded a long time ago. Wireless speeds immediately tripled and the signal strength extends halfway down the street. Everything connected right away and the throughput is outstanding. Highly recommend this router.
Only downside (but not a serious problem) is that it is BIG. I usually have the router on my desk in the room where the cable service enters the house, but this router has no vertical stand option and it's so big I had to mount it on the wall.

Incredible router, and an installation tip...

I needed to replace my old Linksys that was six years old, and beginning to drop the 2.4 GHz channel at random times during the day.
I picked this router due to the high ratings in Consumer Reports, plus my local Best Buy had it in stock.
This is an outstanding router.
VERY fast with a STRONG signal, and the Nighthawk phone app is amazing as well.
But here's a VERY important installation tip. At first I couldn't get it to connect to my modem - no internet.
All of my connected ethernet cables were recognized immediately, but the "Internet" LED kept blinking orange. I swapped out cables between the router and my modem, reset the modem, etc... I played with it for an hour and a half. Nothing worked.
So I made a call to my provider, Xfinity tech support.
An amazing tech at Xfinity (who just happened to have the same router) told me that I needed to change the default factory password (which was "password") before it would connect. Apparently that is a security concern with Netgear, but that step wasn't mentioned anywhere in the documentation, which was sparse to begin with. Once I did that, it came to life.
This thing is incredible. I'm now getting speeds like never before, and the signal meter on my phone is a solid 100% around my house, even if I go out to the backyard.
Last night I ran a speed test (over WiFi) on my Surface Pro, which is in my living room a floor below.
It registered a blazing 200mbps over Wifi. (I'm on a 250mbps plan with Xfinity). That is just incredible for a WiFi signal.
My old Linksys router never even got to 100mbps, even if I used the 5GHz band.
It also comes with a feature called Smart Connect which automatically detects each device, and determines which ones should be connected to the 2.4GHz channel and which ones would be better on the 5GHz channel.
I checked it after I enabled it, and sure enough it had moved a few devices around, like my DirecTV Genie II server, which can stream 4K content was now on the 5GHz.
And this router has another amazing feature - it displayed a popup during setup that said that if I were to rename the wireless connections (2.4 & 5GHz channels) to the same names and passwords as the old router, it would make sure that I wouldn't need to reconfigure any of my devices. And I couldn't believe it, but it WORKED.
I have probably three dozen or more wireless devices in my home - security cameras, smart plugs, smart watch, phone, laptops, my home thermostat, an Alexa Spot and several Echos, TV's, my DirecTV Genie server, Google Home Hub, and even my car is connected for Sync updates.
I didn't have to reconfigure one single device in my house. Not one. Every one simply reconnected once I did the name and password change using the old credentials. That alone made this purchase all the better. I had expected to spend the afternoon going around and reconnecting everything after I made a list beforehand, which was 2 pages long.

Please do you own research, as this reviewer has nothing to compare this product to. I purchased it new at the Best Buy in Poughkeepsie, NY. I have no complaints to speak of. I am satisfied with the product and its performance. I'm using a cable modem; and when hard wired to the modem itself my download speeds are approximately 200mbps. After connecting this wireless router and performing the same test again, my wireless download speed is roughly 80mbps less than one foot away. I'm running three smart phones, one tablet and two televisions all streaming HD video. At 70 feet from
the router, signal strength drops less than four Mbps even after passing through two walls. If I had to choose again, I would've gotten the next model up.....just because.

I'm incredibly pleased with the Nighthawk router from NETGEAR. We had a N-600 before we upgraded and it was not reliable nor did it have the range of the Nighthawk. Our household has 5 people who all have tablets, smartphones and computers that are connected and used regularly and we can all use the internet for anywhere in our home without any lag in internet speed, even while the kids are gaming online. I work primarily from home, so we pay for 60mb internet and with the Nighthawk it tested faster than 60mb! Awesome product!

BEST Internet Router - Nighthawk R7000

The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 is absolutely the best internet router I have ever purchased and used. With dual processors, the R7000 is able to give me wireless speeds that are equivalent to my ISP internet up link speeds. My old Internet router could only handle a couple of devices at a time before internet speeds decorated. because the R7000 has a very fast dual processor, my Note III Mobile Phone, Laptops, and Tablets are reporting Internet speeds of 100 Mbps Down and 5 Mbps Up; the same speeds I get from a wired Internet connection. I have 4 x Smart Phones, 2 x Laptops, 3 x Tablets, 3 x Desktops, 2 x Network Printers, and 6 Gaming Consoles that use a combination of WiFi and Wired Internet Connections and ever since upgrading my two Internet routers to Netgear Night Hawk R7000s, I have no network bottlenecks. The wireless signal strength is fantastic!! I have one R7000 in the house and one R7000 in another detached building about 50 feet away from the house. Wireless Bridge Mode works great, not requiring a physical RJ45 network cable between both R7000 routers; this is also called a WiFi Repeater, because the Remote R7000 repeats TCP and UDP network traffic to and from the Base R7000 Router. I have a RJ45 cable plugged into both R7000 Routers and setup one DHCP scope for all wired and wireless devices attached to either of the R7000 Routers. I setup the WiFi wireless names the same on both R7000 Routers, so when traveling between both R7000 Routers, I do not lose my WiFi network connection and only have one name and password to remeber. I have total control over who can access what when. I can block websites by URL or by a word list. The R7000 Router would work great for home, small businesses, and medium businesses. I guess the reason why the Nighthawk R7000 is such a great product is because they are owned by Cisco. You pay a little more for this product, but Cisco didn't cut any corners here. You get what you pay for, and for me, the price for the Nighthawk R7000 was totaly fair for the number of features Cisco included. The Nighthawk R7000 is a quality product all around and I for one will not buy anything else for my network routing needs!! I highly recommend buying the Nighthawk R7000, you will not be disappointed!!! :)

This NETGEAR - Nighthawk Dual-Band Wireless-AC Router with 4-Port Ethernet Switch - Black gave me what I wanted to surf online and for gaming. That it had a 1.0GHz dual-core processor was a selling point for me. It is a step down from the more expensive feature enriched version for $100 less. Gave me what I desire in the short term.... not bad so far.
Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router R7000Indeed, it offers quite a lot for the price. It's powered by a dual-core processor that runs at 1GHz, which makes it the fastest 802.11ac router from Netgear and among the fastest on the market. On top of that, the R7000 also offers a few unique

A:Our house is only 2000 sq. feet and the Nighthawk now gives us internet from one end to the other, up and down with no problem through 3 or 4 walls and past a refrigerator..
A:I have 2 laptops, 2 IPads 3 IPhones a Blueray player and a smart TV all on at the same time with excellent signal strength and no drop outs and have not had to reboot. Hope this helps, you wont be dissapointed by this router!
A:Yes, this route has a very nice firewall that I use. The advantage of using the firewall on this router is that you aren't using MS Windows horrible firewall. Plus you have many features to use like limiting time and very nice browsing protection that actually works. Remove access to whatever sites you want. naughty sites, gambling, fanatical sites, religious cults, you name it. The only disadvantage using it would be if you had an actual dedicated hardware firewall, which is a bit overkill for home use in my opinion. Plus they are much more expensive than this router.
WPA is out dated and easy to hack. WPA2 is much better and allows you to use password phrases instead of crazy long hard to remember hex strings. You should use WPA2 Personal. Just about any wireless device within the last 8 years will support it. earlier than that there is no guarantee.
Hope I helped answer your questions. :D Have a good day!
A:That's so funny you say that because I did the same upgrade.. I have to say I've had my nighthawk plugged in for 3 months in below zero degrees and I've had no need to reboot it. Those poor expensive Apple Airport Extremes are showing they're age.
A:with this all you need is your internet connection, its pretty much plug and go, already set to block people from gaining unwanted access. If you need more security it is simple as opening up a web page and changing the settings.
