Really Great Little Vacuum

I bought this Shark vacuum to replace my Kirby. So far, I am very gad that I did!!
This little Vac works really well on our hard tile floors and carpet.
Easy assembly out of the box, excellent suction, lifts/vaccums up everything in its path, empties out very easily, cleans up very easily, very simple to lift away, steers easily, pulls itself along with no effort required by the operator.
I would have given this Vac 5 stars but there are 2 things that I feel need to be addressed by the manufacturer.
1. The power head is too small and it would be a much better vaccum if the power head were bigger so you could vaccum a wider swath. The small power head does work well, but its just really small. It kinda makes me feel like I am using a toy vacuum.
2. The hose clip that pushes into the back of the wand to secure the hose when the vacuum is in upright mode will not stay secure in the holder and continuously pops out. This is really, really frustrating to me, so I put a couple of heavy duty rubber bands on it to hold it in place. The Shark engineers really need to come up with something better than this to secure the hose.
If the power head were bigger and the hose clip would hold the hose to the back of the wand, I would have to say that this would be the perfect vacuum and I firmly beleive that if The manufacturer would address these 2 items, this machine would hands down be the very best vacuum available on the market.
Don't get me wrong, the vacuum works very well like it is, but it could and would be better if these 2 issues were addressed, re-engineered and resolved.
In a nut shell, you wont regret buying this machine as it does work quite well but could be even better.

We currently own another "top" brand competing vacuum cleaner and really did not expect this Shark vacuum to come anywhere near it, especially given this Shark retails for half the price. Well, we were in for a pleasant surprise!
This came just before the weekend. I think my wife squealed a little inside when it arrived, LOL. We LOVE our other vacuum, but wanted to have a 2nd one as backup and that was a little smaller that our existing one. We unboxed it and were really excited, just from the overall quality of it! We were even able to fully assemble it without the use of the instruction manual.
Everything feels very sturdy and well-built. Even though most of it is made of out plastic, it's a really durable, hard plastic that has a great design and feel to it, as well as how everything is edged off and accented. My wife and I both tried this vacuum and we can't find any real complaints with it, as far as the vacuum itself goes. This thing has more suction than our other, much bigger vacuum cleaner. Granted, this is smaller, a little more compact and has less floor coverage (width), but it definitely seems to take up a lot more out of the carpet!
I love that there are 3 modes - Hard Floor, Carpet/Low Pile and Thick Carpet/Area rug. For the attachments, they all use the "Hard Floor" setting and you can really tell if it's not on the right setting. Switch it to Hard Floor and the results are amazing! Another thing we love, when using Hard Floor on well, hard floors, we noticed that it sucks up all dirt/dust/hair, etc, immediately and doesn't blow it back out or shuffle it around. This impressed us the most, as any vacuum we've ever used has almost done this to some degree. Not this one. This thing is also fully modular. The canister detaches from the main floor head and can be rolled around, taken to your car, used on stairs, etc, for easy cleaning.
We have a part hound, part beagle dog who sheds WAY TOO MUCH. Our other vacuum, as great as it is, just couldn't fight this hair. We rarely let the dog on the furniture, but somehow, hair still makes it's way there - we had to resort to using expensive lint rollers. We tried the small upholstery attachment and, making sure it's on the "Hard Floor" setting, it did a great job. While it didn't remove ALL the hair, it got about 90% of it. Good enough for us. :-)
Our only complaints, which really are minor and I wouldn't even go so far as calling them complaints, are:
1) The cord is a lot shorter than other vacuums we've used/owned. This isn't a deal breaker, as we have plenty of wall outlets. We just find ourselves plugging and unplugging to move the cord more often than our other vacuum.
2) The canister. It's really small. If you look at the picture, you can get a good idea of the size of it. In reality, I think they could have made it a bit bigger. Simply looking at the vacuum from the front-on, it looks like a lot of wasted space above the canister.
3) The side of the vacuum, where the one attachment goes, is right beside the bottom cord hook. When wrapping the power cord between the bottom and top hook, the cord presses against the attachment itself.
Also, as the dedicated ceiling fan cleaner of the house, I was really disheartened to see that none of the included attachments would work for ceiling fans and such. Our other vacuum has one that semi-works, but I've not yet found anything that works better than a wet towel and duster, lol. Maybe they will offer something like this as an accessory that can be purchased in the future?
Outside of all this, however, we are REALLY happy with this vacuum. In fact, given the retail price, we would certainly recommend this over our other brand, even though it is smaller and takes a little longer to cover the same amount of space. Take care of this, keep it cleaned (canister, filter, etc) and it should last you forever! We cannot express how much we love this vacuum!

I've had a Kirby G5 for years. The thing is heavy (all metal) but reliable, the HEPA bags can easily add another 10 lbs of dirt. On carpets the Kirby does a respectable job. But as I've been removing all the carpet in my house and replacing them with wood and tile; there is less and less where the Kirby is good. The Shark DuoClean does a FANTASTIC job on hardwood, and tile floors. The little spinning roller thing (see picture) on the front gets up dust like I can't believe. In the morning sun all the dust on my wood floors, shine in the sunlight, my Kirby does a good job of redistributing the dust, but not getting it sucked up. The Shark on the other hand passes over the dust leaving a clean strip of floor behind. Same with my wood looking tile floors, the grittiness the Kirby always left behind is a thing of the past (YEA).
If that all there was too it I'd be most pleased, but then I go to use the Shark on my still carpeted stairs, and the back breaking work of lugging and balancing theKirby on the stairs is gone. The Shark is a fraction of the weight (probably 1/4), and the wand reached more than half way up the stairs, so after finishing 1/2 I take the Shark to the top and work my way down...No balancing, and it's just as effective. And the handy little tools make getting behind and under things much easier. The only thing I wish it had was an attachement to better clean ceiling fans, the bright LED lights on the front are also a nice touch. And it's easy to empty the dust container, unlike the Kirby's expensive bags that I don't want to empty (replace); the Shark will likely get empties with each use, just that easy. It's also powerfully self propelled (if you want it to be).
The lift off canister is a nice touch, but the job it does on hard floors makes this a most impressive vacuum cleaner.

Big vacuum in a compact design

Overall very impressed with this vacuum. The base main brush head at first seemed small, but it's smaller frame lets you go everywhere. It's small wheel base behind the head lets it flexibly move easily in every direction. Nice bright led lights on the main base did a good job illuminating under the bed, etc.
I like the lift off canister option. I didn't think we'd use it much, but when you take it off the vacuum then the main vacuum has a really slim profile that lets you get under a lot more things.
Very good suction and leaves the "lines" in your carpet showing where you've been. The handle switch let's you easily switch from hard floor, low pile and thick pile carpets - much easier then my old vacuum where it was a dial on the base of the vacuum. Sucked up sand, dust, pet hair, etc. all with ease.
Very long cord so you can vacuum a whole room without switching outlets. The handle comes out in 2 different places so you can use either a short wand for handheld cleaning or the long wand for higher up spots. It was easy to clean as the canister opens both on the top and the bottom.
The amount of attachments was a little daunting, but we got used to them pretty quickly. There's pretty much an attachment for every type of cleaning you'd need to do - even a crazy long L attachment that's perfect for cleaning under things like the stove, dryer, and other hard to reach areas.
Its compact frame fits in any closet. Only thing that was a bit tough to maneuver is the crevice tool wand with bristles – the bristles part slides back and forth when you depress a plastic notch on the side that was a bit finicky to depress and lock and unlock. It’ll probably loosen up a bit with use.
Very happy with this vacuum so far.

Versatile cleaning demon vacuum

This review is for the Shark Powered Lift-Away Speed with DuoClean.
The Shark Lift-Away Duo Clean is an extremely versatile and powerful home vacuum cleaner. It has a self propelled floor and rug head that is built into the units handle. The power unit and dirt collection unit is a separate module that can be detached from the handle and carried, when doing stairs with the 6 inch powered carpet/ upholstery brush, cleaning blinds or dusting furniture or any other task that requires mobility.
It is a cleaning demon. Way more than you would expect for the price. The carpet/floor head will fit under a two inch high opening to a depth of about 1 foot. The self propelled head can be pivoted at any angle and steered with the handle. The six inch powered carpet brush really works great on carpeted stairs. The long flat extension will reach 3 feet under appliances. It has a brush that will loosen the dust on the bottom of the refrigerator coils and suck it up through the slot. The flexible hose is sufficiently long enough for most jobs when the power unit is on the handle and long enough to clean the tops of ceiling fans when the power unit is detached and carried. The crevice tool has a brush that can be slid to the end or slid back to be used as a standard crevice tool.
We used this vacuum for about three weeks before I wrote this review and no one in our house has any complaints. The lift away power unit is really cool and you can even buy an optional wheeled carrier for the power unit if you please. The carpet head is not real wide. it is about 10-11 inches wide, but it really cleans. The only issue that I noticed was that the self propelled action can be a little aggressive on a deep piled carpet if the head is set to an excessively low height.
Great value, and all that most people will need. If you have a big house you can afford one of these on each floor and the basement, for way less than one of the premium vacuum cleaners. I own one of those premium vacuum cleaners and this little wonder is better than it is on everything but deep pile carpets. On a tight pile carpet it is the winner.
It stores easily and has a nice bag for the attachments that can be hung on the unit when in storage. This Shark Powered LiftAway DuoClean is a 5 stars, thumbs up, great bang for the buck choice, in my opinion.

Let me first provide a little background to my living situation. I live in a second floor apartment with hardwood floors throughout. I have multiple rugs of varying length throughout the apartment and the real kicker and reason behind trying a new vacuum is my very hair Australian shepherd dog.
My conventional vacuum I thought did a great job on the rugs and carpets in the places that I have lived in the past but my current apartments has hardwood floors that includes a staircase. Thus, cleaning was a bit of a chore as I vacuumed all the rugs and then swept all the hardwood floors and had to hand sweep my stairs. Having not purchased a new vacuum in years (~7), I figured it was worth trying a lift away as that would help with the stairs.
First, some assembly is required but it is not much and literally clicks together in a few minutes. Once assembled, the vacuum is heavier than one would expect from appearances. Similarly, the vacuum was much louder than I anticipated it would be and I believe it was, in fact, louder than my old vacuum. The rollers and subsequent vacuum head is smaller than most vacuums, less than a foot.
In order to really see how well it worked I decided my living room rug was the best place to try it. You can see in the picture that the rug appears fairly clean prior to vacuuming. I used the Shark on one half of the rug and my conventional old vacuum on the other half of the rug. The shark moved very easily and has much better mobility which would allow it to get into tight spaces much easier than my old vacuum. Interestingly, the Shark only has three floor settings which can readily be adjusted on the handle making switching from surface to surface easy. As can be seen by my dirt piles, both vacuums can fairly readily pick up my dogs hair out of the rug. Interestingly, when I used the Shark over the area my old vacuum had cleaned I was able to pull out even more hair/dirt (middle pile in the picture).
When I tried the Shark on the hardwood floors it was fairly loud such that I do not think I would use it that much directly on the floors.
In short, this vacuum does a great job at exactly what it was designed to do, pick up dirt and hair from the floors. It does an excellent job at deep cleaning of shallow carpets, is easy to use, and can readily be detach to hand clean couches or steps. It offers a high degree of mobility and versatility in one compact package. However, the small brush path and small container volume would prove to be problematic in the cleaning of larger areas or places with multiple pets. This vacuum is likely best suited for small homes or apartments and that require a high degree of mobility/flexibility.

At first I thought it was going to be complicated with regard to running it, but I soon found out that it is easy. Having the three different settings for bare floor, short carpet, and thick carpet/area rugs, makes everything else easier. I think what I like the best is how each section can come apart in an instant to take care of whatever the current situation calls for. If I need to get underneath the coffee table I just push a button and "lift away" the body. It is very light weight so I just carry it from that point on. If I need to get the ledge on the bookcase, I simply detach the handle and use the accessory for tight spaces that I placed at the bottom of the machine. It is so convenient. There is no bag needed and it only takes 2 minutes to empty the container. Again,... Convenient!
A:I have two long haired cats. This vacuum does a great job picking up the pet hair. I do clean the brush head once a month to remove the hair from the brushes, but it doesn't get tangled in the rollers, that I have noticed. It is easy to take apart to get to the brushes when it's time to clean them. Hope that helps.
A:The Cord is 30 feet long. This Shark package from Best Buy does NOT include the Canister Cart, but is for sale on the Shark website. If you buy this same vacuum directly from Shark you will still end up paying for the Canister Cart, so you really don't get it "free" in any configuration from any stores. Honestly, I have the Canister Cart for my larger Rotator Powered Lift Away XL, bought here at Best Buy, and I rarely use it. So I'd guess that unless you're going from a canister type vacuum to this Shark, you probably wouldn't need the Canister Cart. Hope this helps and I highly recommend this Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away DuoClean vacuum. Thanks
A:I have same problem. Hurts my ears so I wear my noise dampening headphones. Have had other Shark vacuums without this obnoxious high pitch whine. Has done it from day one. Shark needs to do better. I believe it comes from the motor.
A:Yes!.. well kind of... You can't click a button to prevent the brushroll from spinning, HOWEVER both brush rolls are removable for cleaning purposes and so can ALSO be removed for use on more delicate flooring. With this, and similar modles, it can he done in a matter of sconds thanks to the "garage door" access to the brushroll. I am a housekeeper by profession and use this model for work. I typically remove the standard brushroll and leave the duoclean brush in place for us on hardwood and laminate surfaces.
A:Had this vacuum for two weeks and it works really good on tile and hardwood better than expected honestly. Works great on carpet two although it may take an extra odd or two to get everything because the head is smaller than most and I think bigger vacuums can suck stuff up better, but being so light And maneuverable it's actually fun to use.
A:Yes, powered lift away speed. It's the duo clean, it's awesome, and I clean up after a huge tribe of people please and animals, lots of for. Hardwood downstairs, carpet upstairs, even has a setting for throw rugs.
