I just want to extend an internet connection over a coax cable (no TV or anything complicated like that, just internet). 1) One end will have the adapter connected by CAT5 to a router (with working internet of course). 2) The adapters will be connected together by coax. 3) The other end will have the other adapter connected to a computer (via CAT5). Will this just work? Or do I have to buy other expensive equipment? Or do I have to go through a complicated configuration setup screen?”

You buy one of these and you use a coax cable to connect one of your house coax jacks to this, then you plug a cat 5 cable from this to your computer. Once you have your FIOS router plugged into your cable line, your whole house is essentially "live". Any coax ports in your house (that are connected that is) are now part of your MOCA (multimedia over coax) network.

The coax has only TWO WIRES; an external shield and an internal copper THIN WIRE. That's why network technicians call coax "thin wire network". An Ethernet cable has FOUR WIRES.
