• Some TVs have a setting that will allow this but most do not. If you have a newer HDTV or 4K UHD often they have Optical out, and in TV settings > Audio/Sound settings > output they will offer Optical/PCM Out and Stereo Speaker out. Or you can do one or the other. But this is determined by the TV, not the Aluratek.

• Yes you have separate volume control. Normal volume control for the TV for other listeners,and volume control on headset for that listener.

• You're not supposed to hear the volume on the tv when the head phones are plugged in, thats the purpose of the headphones. When you plug into the headphone jack on the tv it automatically switches to headphone mode, even if you used regular plug in headphones. Hope this helps.
