Very easy. I also have Cox. Your TV should tell you which HDMI port you're already using, so just select the other one. Give it a try. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll learn if you just give it a try.

Some TVs have an option to have it automatically switch to the active input but yes in many cases you would need to use your TV remote to switch to the input that your Fire Stick would be plugged into.
