QuestionWhen will Best Buy start selling the AmpliFi Alien Router and MeshPoint pack? I see it offered on the AmpliFi website.

- Answer Be careful about buying the MeshPoint pack. You save about $70 over the price of two Alien Routers (where one would be configured as a "RAMP" - Router As Mesh Point - but the mesh point in the combination package is locked to the router, and if the router ever fails, you have two worthless devices. Also, the mesh point has only a single ethernet jack and no display. I spent the extra money and bought three Alien routers with two configured as RAMPs using ethernet backhaul.

QuestionDoes this router support link aggregate as I have several wired devices?

- Answer From what I can find, No. According to Ubiquiti, The Amplifi Alien does not support Link Aggregation. All ports are 10/100/1000 and can't be aggregated to make 2gbps. You shouldn't need Link Aggregation unless you have 2,000mbps internet or you have a NAS, Plex server, etc. that you plan on using heavy amounts of data inside of your house. Hope this helps!

QuestionHas anyone compared this with the NETGEAR RAX80? I appreciate the range and speed of the RAX80, but have been working with NETGEAR to resolve intermittent disconnect issues. How does the speed and range of the AmpliFi compare with the RAX80? Thanks!

- Answer I've had both, and I've had those same disconnect issues with the RAX80. Eventually the Netgear just died and since it had issues even when working I didn't bother trying to replace it. The Alien has better range in general, slightly less performance drop-off as range increases, and never disconnects--it's rock solid. Plus, the Alien is better at meshing (to other Aliens, at least) and includes a free (if slightly proprietary) VPN. With the Alien, there's also none of that silliness of having to pay a monthly fee for advanced features (although there aren't that many aside from the VPN). P.S. - anyone want to buy a broken RAX80 that never worked right in the first place?

- Answer I use the Netgear AC750, but honestly, any of their range extenders should work just fine. But the absolute best range extender for an AmpliFi Alien is another Alien.

- Answer The AmpliFi Alien tri-band Gigabit router works great in my 1800 sq foot home. For your size home your going to need to spend a few extra dollars and get the Alien router plus mesh point good up to 6000 sq. ft.

- Answer You can add a HD node to the Alien but it won’t form a traditional mesh network with the Alien. Only the Alien mesh 2 pack with satellite or another Alien can be added for a full integrated mesh system. Wifi6 on the Alien and Wi-Fi5 on the HD. You can add a HD node to the to the Alien by enabling the third 5G AC band on the Alien and connecting to that in AP or bridge mode. It will add another network separate from your Wi-Fi6 network but it can be done.

- Answer I ran cat8 as the back haul and when I purchased the 2nd Alien as a RAMP. When I added the 3rd Alien I didn’t have cat8 run to that wing of my home. After contemplating using the existing cst6 or tearing open drywall to run cat8, I decided to give the wireless back haul option provided by Alien a try. I was able to get almost 200 more mbps than the wired cat8. Needless to say I’m now 100% wireless back haul and clocking well over gigabit speeds on my LAN.

- Answer Yes, the Alien router works with FIOS, but depending on whether you have FIOS TV, you may have to configure the Alien in Bridge Mode which will disable some of the more advanced features of the Alien. But it does work with FIOS.

QuestionWill this work with older Ubiquity Amplifi (white, non-alien) satellites? I have a system that currently seems to be hitting a bottleneck and likely needs an upgrade. I want to reuse parts of the mesh if possible.

- Answer No. Amplifi Alien does not work with the older antennae from other Amplifi system. However, you can pair up 2 Amplifi Alien with one main and one mesh.

- Answer That could depend on multiple factors. Does ATT tell you what your expected speed should be and is that amount higher than you're getting? Then possibly yes. And there's hardline connection speed and wifi speed, which will be different. The further you are from your router,in general, the slower your wifi speed will be at device. This Alien router definitely helped me in that regard with it's superior antennas and extra channels. Are you living in a wifi congested area? You can download free wifi analyzer apps and see how many others are on the same channel as yourself. Wifi congestion can definitely slow you down, which was my issue using an Eeros router. Eeros doesn't allow you to select a channel manually so the Alien router was much better in that regard. You can also get wifi6 with this router. Compatible devices will see an increase in their speed while connected via WiFi. I'd start by figuring out how much speed you're losing from mobile connections. If it looks like you're leaving a lot of speed on the table, it can't hurt to go with the Alien. I love mine.

QuestionWhy is my Alien so slow? I have 1gig internet, I can't break 200 mbps on wifi with my iPhone 12 pro max, I'm getting more speed from a router that my provider gave me, I really want to give this a chance, because all the hype, but not working right

- Answer Honestly, I don’t know. Have your tried resetting the Alien? I had slow speeds because I was using my own Modem (Motorola Surfboard S33), I returned it and used my voice/modem gateway from Spectrum 1G service. Try doing a factory reset. Power down your modem and router wait and give at least 3 minutes, then power on modem (once it’s initialized) then power on your router. It’s possible that you have a bad unit. Get it replaced and hopefully your replacement will be in a working order. I’ll include a picture of the speed my Xbox Series X speed on a wired connection. (depending on network congestion). On my iPhone 11 Pro Max (wifi) I’m getting an average of 600-750mb average (picture included)

- Answer Yes, it is set up as 10-8 by default, but easily adjusted. You can also turn the lights off or down very easily.
