In answer to your question, it's a sealed lead-acid battery and prices vary substantially by retailer, but amusingly enough, the prices are just a bit below just buying a whole new UPS. Maddeningly, APC does not even list the BN650M1 (one of their biggest sellers at retailers all around the country) as a current device, but instead they helpfully offer to take it as a trade in and sell us another one at "substantial discount" which is higher than retail.
