There are some ad hok ways to do this through various apps, but the better answer is to wait for iPad OS 16. With some minor limitations via the new stage manager desktop organization system, connecting an external monitor will be plug and play via usb c.

Buy an adapter to go from USB C to HDMI, there are also multi-port adapters, just make sure that it has HDMI as one of the ports. You can order them from Apple, or pick one up at an Apple store or Best Buy.
