• yes it can if theres and HDMI connection. 4K won't work, but the apple tv can be set to lower resolution to match your TV. You're better off getting the non-4K appleTV though. save money.

• I tested mine in a 2015 42" Insignia the first time it came home right out the box (i was waiting for my new tv in the living room)...no problem at all.
