I have a Lenovo Yoga 6, not Ideapad S540. My experience is that my Yoga 6 doesn't have an HMDI port. I plugged this adapter into my USB C port and plugged the HMDI cord into the adapter and then into my pico projector. It worked immediately with no problems.
