The SoundTouch pedestal is designed as a pedestal to hold the main unit - but also functions as the wireless adapter that the main system uses to connect to the SoundTouch service. If you wish to have your system connect to the SoundTouch service via WiFi, I recommend opting for the system that includes the SoundTouch pedestal.
