I am not sure how your older printer hooked up to your computer but this Brother HL-L232OD is USB connection only. But if your using a network setup, there is USB Hub with Ethernet connection build into the hub that will convert this printer to a network printer as I did to my Brother printer. Hope this helps Richard
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 2040 model says it can use both parallel and USB connections. If you're currently using a USB cable, you won't need anything else. If you connected via a parallel cable, not likely as those older cables haven't been used in a long time, you'll need a USB cable. Prior to swapping printers you'll also want to remove the previous printer drivers, and install the drivers included with with your new printer.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, they both connect the same.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your older printer 2040 has the end letters DW then it is wWiFi compatible. If it ends with just the letter D. then it is not WiFi compatible. The 2300D is not WiFi.
