Q: QuestionWill this work with a HP Chromebook?

• A:Answer The answer is actually yes - printing from any Chromebook to the Brother MFC-J1205w works great if you use "IPP" printing. It's true that there's no driver, however, you can use the IPP protocol and it prints just fine. I was totally alarmed by the highest-ranked answer to this question, but found my own way. In Chromebook > Settings > Printers > You may see the MFC-J1205w appear, but if you try to add it, there are no drivers. However, if you instead hit "Add printer", and then simply enter the ip address of your printer, it'll use the IPP protocol by default and work just fine! Hope this helps :-).

Q: QuestionWill the INKvestment Tank MFC_J1205 printer print B&W if one of the color cartridges is empty? Can it be set up for printing B&W only if one or all the color cartridges are empty?

• A:Answer If one color cartridge is empty it will print bad colors. I checked the brother app and it doesn’t give me a option to set up B& W printing only. Usually I have to select B&W when printing from the brother app or from my iPhone. If color cartridges are empty it will print black by default. You could always take the color ones out.

• A:Answer Your Brother MFCJ1205W machine will perform maintenance purges of the print head at regular intervals. The cleaning is to ensure consistent print quality and prevent damage to the print head. These purges remove any air or debris that may have gotten into the print head manifold. Your machine will use the minimum amount of ink necessary to perform this operation. If the time setting on the machine isn't correct, the cleaning will be performed at an unexpected time. Please make sure the time is set correctly on your machine. You can't change or turn off regular cleaning cycles. The cleaning time is built into the machine's firmware and is not user adjustable.

Q: QuestionI don't have Wifi but I can use my phone as a hotspot. I can't figure out how to print this way. Is there a cord I could buy to connect my Mac to my printer? It doesn't look like there are any connections on the printer.

• A:Answer The printer does have a standard USB port, it’s just hidden. If you look at the quick start card it’ll show you. Lift the scanner cover and next to the scanning glass near the left hinge you will see it.
