Actually this can be an advantage in situations where flash photography is not allowed (museums, theaters, etc.) By keeping the flash secured within the camera body, you can be assured that you will not violate any NO-FLASH rules. I have another camera that resets its flash option after each shot so I have had the accidental flash firing when I did not want it.
