I have an older Dyson DC25 "Ball" that never had the height adjustment feature. Indeed, the "manual" over 10 yrs ago never mentioned it. My vacuum will not work on extremely dense rugs at all. Too much suction. I use it for standard low pile wall-to-wall or hard floors. Shaggy type rugs are a no-no.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This dyson has a self adjusting height. We have higher carpet in one room and it feels like its suctioned to it when we use it. My daughter swears by the trick of turning the roller off then back on. It does seem to force the adjustment, but its not in any instruction I'd seen.

The cleaner head on the Dyson Ball machines have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal.
