Questioncan you tell it an address and it speaks back to you? do you just plug into cigarette lighter? is it easy to use for an older couple?

- Answer The Garmin nüvi 2589LMT will provide verbal feedback when you use the Voice Command feature. When you find an address using that feature, it will say something like "Did you mean..." and say the address back to you. Also, the device is ready to use right when you take it out of the box. All you need to do to power it is connect it to the vehicle power cable that come packaged with it. QuestionWhich garmin gps gives you the best traffic alert when coming upon traffic congestion?

- Answer The 2589 gives you traffic alerts, but only where it has coverage. For example, I was on I95 in South Carolina and the traffic came to a halt. But no notification from my 2589. I went on the Garmin site after I got back and found out that that section of I95 doesn't have traffic coverage. I would have thought that ALL Interstates had that, but I was mistaken.

- Answer The nuvi 2589LMT will support SD or SDHC cards up to 32GB. If the card is 32GB or smaller, it should be in FAT32 format. -JPK

QuestionGarmin - n�vi 2589LMT 5" GPS route details and alternate routesMy old Tom Tom allows me to see details of the route. I can also select "find an alternative route". Does the Garmin - n�vi 2589LMT 5" GPS do the same? Can I avoid tolls? Also, does it show the current street name and town? Thank you.

- Answer The Garmin nüvi 2589LMT allows you to select an option labeled "Change Route" which will give you several options to change the route such as "Detour", "Detour by Distance", and "Detour by Road". The device will also allow you to preset the navigation settings to avoid different types of roads such as carpool lanes, and toll roads. Regarding street names and towns, the device will display the name of the street being driven on, however it will not show the name of the town being driven in on the map. However if the map is zoom out enough the name of the town/city will be visible on the map. {CW}

QuestionCan you manually change the route on the 2589LMT like you can on map quest?I want to be able to adjust the route chosen by the GPS if it is not the route I want to take. Can this be done. You can do this on Map Quest, and I'd like to be able to do it on my GPS.

- Answer There are multiple ways to create and edit a route on the nüvi 2589LMT, such as using the Trip Planner feature, detour options, and/or changing route preferences. You can also create a route on the computer using Garmin BaseCamp (a free program available at http://garmin.com/basecamp) and send it to the nüvi. ^DK

- Answer Hi, The nuvi 2589LMT is compatible with both the iOS and Android versions of the Smartphone Link app. This app will allow an iOS or Android smartphone to pair up with the nuvi via Bluetooth, and has a "Last Mile" feature. This feature remembers your parking spot so you can view a map and easily navigate back to your vehicle. - Answer Generally the more money you spend, the more features. It is hard to answer your question without knowing what you need. I would suggest making sure you have the following features: Traffic updates, lifetime map updates (you do need to plug the GPS into your computer about once per year to update the maps), and lane change info (the GPS will show you an image of what lane to be in - helpful in intersections with lots of turn options). Other things to consider is a larger screen which is easier to see.

- Answer I actually bought this unit based on the answers given to this question because I wanted a GPS that would give directions through my car speakers. This product DOES NOT pair with a car's sound system. In fact, NO Garmin GPS units will pair with a car...if you go to their website that is stated on their tech support FAQs page.

- Answer The nüvi 2589LMT takes approximately an hour to charge and can keep a charge up to two hours. The nüvi 2589LMT is primarily designed to be connected to the vehicle power cord as the cord gives the device traffic reports. ~JH

QuestionDifferences with the model 2689 like traffic.I have reviewed the features of both and, aside from the 2689 being larger, the only difference seems to be that the 2589 has a Traffic Antenna. (even though both have the same "89" ending.) No picture of the Traffic Antenna is shown. What does it look like? Is it on a wire with a magnetic mount?

- Answer Traffic antenna is integrated into the power cord. It does not mount to the window or dash.

Questiondoes it show the altitude?My old Nuvi 1690 does show on the side bar the altitude, which I have found useful on many occasions while driving in the Alps. Does Nuvi 2589LM has this function too? Thanks

- Answer James, Yes you can put the altitude on the right side bar. I used it when I was traveling through the mountains in route to Seattle Washington. It is nice to see how high you are traveling.

- Answer A GPS does not use cellular data, so all you need to look for is that the GPS has "Lifetime Updates", so that you will not have to purchase new maps. If you do that, the only expense that you have to worry about is the cost of the GPS itself.

- Answer Garmin recommends not leaving the device exposed to a heat source or in a high-temperature location, such as in the sun in an unattended vehicle. To prevent damage, remove the device from the vehicle or store it out of direct sunlight, such as in the glove box. When storing the device for an extended time, store within the following temperature range: from 32°F to 77°F (from 0°C to 25°C). >JF

- Answer Yes, it shows the general direction of any of places you're going, using arrows for S, N, W, E and in between (NE). It's very helpful when you're looking for a place to eat and you don't know if it is in the direction you're traveling. In other words, it doesn't just tell you that the restaurant is 2 miles away, it also lets you know that it is east if you are traveling east so that you don't back track.

QuestionMy biggest issue is going around or through large cites.....is this unit good for that? I hate not knowing how to get through large traffic areas. Thanks!

- Answer Yes it works very well with with all your navigation needs and has construction warnings, split screen on/off exit ramps and a lot more features, my wife uses ours daily as she travels for her job and as long as you check Garmin Express that you use to install and update the maps periodically you should have no troubles. This is the third gps we've had in the last 5 years, the garmin 2555 stopped working so I bought this one and she likes it so much better and has had no issues with getting around with it.
