QuestionI am finding the keypad very hard to see. The choices are more gray on black rather than white. Even with the light on and my glasses on I have to struggle to see it. Is this a defect?

- Answer has both options, but default vents into the room, but you can change to vent to the back.. after knocking out 2 small precut panels.

- Answer I just replaced my JVM3160RF3SS with what I thought was a JMV3160RFSS (notice the 3 is missing from 3SS) from Best Buy. But the model number on the actual unit is JVM3160RF6SS. So, I bought what I thought was JMV3160RFSS because I couldn't find the JMV3160RF3SS anywhere. I can tell you that with the JVM3160RF6SS the screw holes on top of the microwave don't exactly line up with the JMV3160RF3SS. I purchased what I thought was the same model I had before specifically so everything would line up and it would be an easy install. Not so fast my friend! The holes were slightly off, super frustrating.

- Answer Hi-this is Sue from GE. Thanks for your interest! The blower will need to be rotated for indoor (recirculating) venting. The directions are provided in the installation instructions included with the microwave. Also, the recirculating charcoal filter is included. The turntable can be turned off when using larger dishes. Model JNM3161DFBB is the same microwave except assembled for indoor (recirculating) venting. Thanks for checking with us!

QuestionA thin card board is attached (right side)inside JVM3160 over the Range MicrowaveI recently bought JVM3160 over the range microwave. I see a thin cardboard is attached at the right side, inside the microwave. May I know what is the use of it.? or should I remove it. I don't see anything in the installation instruction manual.

- Answer Hi AGST- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Thanks for your purchase! The cardboard cover on the right top or side wall of the microwave interior is there by design. The cardboard (mica) covers the waveguide system that feeds microwave energy into the cavity and should not be removed. The microwave should not be used for any function if this cardboard cover is not in place. If removed, it would require service to replace. Thanks for checking with us!

- Answer Yes, you can either vent back into the room or through an external vent. I vented internally. The configuration was easy, hardest part was installing the filter. It took a bit of finesse to remove the panel from the front of the unit.

Our 30" over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth). The height and depth of the models may vary slightly. The top mounting is basically the same. You will need to use the back wall mounting bracket included with the new model as they are similar but not interchangeable. Your model, JNM1851SM2SS was shipped assembled for recirculating (indoor) venting. Model JVM3160RFSS is shipped assembled for outdoor venting. If you choose model JVM3160, you will also need to purchase the optional recirculating charcoal filter JX81L and follow the recirculating venting instructions in the installation guide. You may want to consider model JNM3161RFSS. It is the same model except is shipped assembled for recirculating (indoor) venting. - Answer The JVM3160 model is not a good replacement for the JVM1430 spacemaker microwave. The location of the top bolts is in a different place than the pacemaker (which for us meant that it ran into brackets into our cabinets and was not useable) it is also quite a bit deeper than the spacemaker and will stick out further. Trying to find a good replacement option, it looks like GE doesn't have anything that will work.

QuestionWill the JVM3160DFWW model fit the same space as my JVM3160DF2WW model

- Answer The quick answer is that yes, it will fit in the same space. The longer answer is that you're going to have to do some work. I just (10/20/2023) installed a JVM3160DFWW in place of a JVM3160DF2WW that I installed in 2015. I use the outside back exhaust installation method. I was hoping I could use the same wall bracket that came with the DF2WW and top cabinet screw holes that I drilled in 2015 but no. There's only two bracket slots on the lower back of the DFWW instead of the four on the DF2WW and they're in a slightly different position. You have to use the new bracket which means drilling more holes. Instead of three top mounting nuts there are only two on the DFWW. One of the two is almost in the same position as one on the DF2WW but the other isn't close and you'll have to drill another hole in the upper cabinet. I was a little frustrated because I thought I could just remove the DF2WW and drop in the DFWW but that's not the case.

- Answer Hello Nick - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. Yes, the JVM3160DFWW would be a great replacement for a current GE over-the-range microwave that you have. You would need to adjust the blower motor to be internally vented and purchase a charcoal filter. The Installation Instructions explain how to adjust the unit for internal venting. You would also need to use the mounting bracket and hardware that comes with the new microwave as they have changed over the years. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

- Answer Hi CMT - The overall height is the same on all GE models (16 1/2"H). All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" over-the-range model. NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. QuestionHello, We need to replace our white Kenmore Model 721.89941490 - serial #611KM05137 over the range microwave. Which GE MW will work? There are cabinets on either side of the stove/microwave.

- Answer Watch out. NOT all over-the-range microwaves are the same HEIGHT. The old Kenmore you have is 15 1/2 inches high. I know because I have the same one from 1995 and it just died. All the new ones for over the range are either a lot shorter in height or about 16 1/2 inches high. I Don't know what the code is for clearance between your range top and the bottom of the microwave, but this extra inch might put you out of spec. Also, if you have tiles on the wall behind the range, like I do, and they were cut away to allow for the 15 1/2 inch high microwave to fit flush to the wall under the cabinet, then the taller ones will not fit. You will need to either 1) raise the cabinet, 2) cut more tile away, which is hard to do without breaking tiles 3) cut away the underside of the cabinet which may not be possible if it is a solid board 4) mount the microwave a tile-thickness away from the wall, This would be my preference. You would need to put a spacer the thickness of the tiles behind the new mounting rail. You may still be out of spec with the range-to-microwave clearance.
