QuestionWill this freezer stay on if the room temp is around 32F? It will be in an unheated garage; we had a previous freezer that shut down when the garage temp got too cool. We had to have a “garage adapter kit” put on it after losing a freezer full of meat.

QuestionHow long should I wait to plug in a upright freezer after delivery?

- Answer Hi - Thank you for having purchased a new GE upright freezer. If your freezer had to be transported from the store laying down, we recommend leaving it upright for the same amount of time it was laying down before plugging it in. If you do not know how long or if it was laid down, allow unit to sit for a maximum of 24 hours before plugging it in. If your freezer remained upright during transport, you can plug it in now. - Answer Hello, thank you for your question. Yes, this upright freezer will come back on once power is restored. However, we recommend that you unplug the power cord from the wall outlet when a power outage occurs. When power has been restored, plug the unit back into the wall outlet. If the outage is for a prolonged period, inspect and discard spoiled or thawed food in the freezer and clean the freezer before reusing. We hope this helps! - Answer Your freezer should be conveniently located for day-to-day use in a dry, well-ventilated room. Please don't install the freezer where the temperature will go below 0°F or above 110°F, because it will not maintain proper temperatures. -Don@GEAppliances

QuestionHow does the auto defrost work? What internal temp will the freezer reach while defrosting?

- Answer The defrost on the FUF14DL is an adaptive defrost system. Defrost is going to be based on usage. The defrost system activates a defrost heater in the evaporator section at the rear of the freezer compartment. This heater melts frost off of the evaporator coils and then turns off. During defrost there will be no running sounds, no fan noise and no compressor noise. Most models will defrost for approximately 25 to 45 minutes, usually once or twice a day. You may hear water dripping or sizzling as it hits the heater. This is normal and helps evaporate the water before it gets to the drip pan. When the defrost heater is on, it is normal to see a red, yellow or orange glow from the freezer. There is not a specific internal temperature during defrost. In or out of a defrost cycle, the freezer is designed to maintain food temperature in the freezer at the temperature range listed in the Specs: Temperature Range -6 F to 6 F.

- Answer This freezer should not be installed outside. It should be installed in a well-ventilated room where the temperature does not go below 0 degrees F. or above 100 degrees F.

- Answer We strongly recommend that an extension cord not be used with any Freezer due to the potential safety hazards under certain conditions. However, if an extension cord is used, it is absolutely necessary that it be a UL® listed 3-wire grounding appliance extension cord and that the current carry rating of the cord be a minimum of 15 amperes.
