I spent 15 years doing A/C work. Air conditioning works by removing water from the air. The higher the humidity the more water it removes, that water is vented to the outside if the unit is installed right. Most window A/C units sit slightly at an angled so the water runs down and outside. As far as the noise, just remember this is not an all bells and whistles A/C unit. The more money you spend on a unit, the more insulation, and other useful options will show you where your money went. I'm 68 years old and I've never heard a silent window unit. For help on making a choice, I usually go to Consumer Reports and read their reviews.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Joe - Thanks for reaching out regarding your GE Air Conditioner Model AHP06LZ! We are happy to address your concern. As warm moist (humid) air from the room passes over the cold indoor coil, water condenses on the cold indoor coil and collects in the base pan where it flows to the rear of the unit. Water will collect in the base pan and may even overflow and drip outside during periods of high humidity or on rainy days. This is normal operation. All GE room air conditioners have a "slinger ring" around the rear fan blade. The ring is designed to pick water up off the bottom of the pan and throw it against the condenser coils. This design feature helps improve the efficiency of the unit by reducing heat on the coils, and helps remove moisture from the pan. It is normal to hear a pinging or sloshing sound as the fan blade moves through the water. The drain plug may be removed during operation to minimize water in the back of the unit; however, removing it will lower the efficiency of your unit. We suggest viewing page 15 of the Use and Care Guide for details here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000461.pdf - We hope this is helpful. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to ask. We are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You probably live in a high humidity area. There is also a plug underneath the base. You can remove it to drain the water but will decrease the efficiency
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Purchased and installed the unit today 7/28/23. Cools wonderfully. Looks great in the window. However, and this is a big however, the ultra quiet only refers to the blower and compressor. It took less than an hour to start splashing water around in the back section as everyone that’s commented has alluded to. It’s loud. Like raining outside loud. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far better than the constant compressor squeal I got from my last window unit, but it’s not quiet. I’ve tilted it to drain it three times already and removed the drain plug all together and the fan still splashes the water around. GE downplays it tremendously. Mixed feelings and admittedly some buyers remorse on a $459 unit, at the time of purchase. Was really sold on the ultra quiet top feature that’s not really all that quiet.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have the same unit 6000btu the haier version. And even when you tilt it backwards. On humid days the only way to stop the sloshing of water sound is to turn it off and quickly drain it (there’s a rubber plug on the bottom and when you pull it out out drains A lot of water ) I have mine tilted as far as it lets met (which isn’t much ) but I’ve done this a ton of times this is my 2nd season with the unit in it still works great gets super cool but (after many times of taking the plug out it’ll begin to get smaller , so be careful and don’t loose the plug (mind gut sucked into the ac last summer. And then the fan would shoot out of the vents and into my room (took talking to supervisor after supervisor , phone and emails to get a replacement drain PLUG because technically it’s not a “Part”. So they had to send me a drain PLUG from China (after a month of complaining to GE. I’m still using the new drain plug and I’m just extra carefull now when removing and placing back in ! Otherwise very happy With it the (it didn’t effect the operation ) it simply Gets rid of the dirty water from hanging out in your AC because if you don’t drain it it’ll remain in the AC unless you shut it off for a few hours but when it’s hot you want it to be on ofcourse. (Only design flaw ) is that stupid drain plug they should offer it as a replacement part or stleast send you an extra one on purchase
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In other words if you don’t want the sloshing sound which is way worse than Ge makes it out to be. You have to unplug the drain Plug. Just be careful when doing so after doing it many times the rubber plug gets thinner and can get pushed into the bottom of the ac and the blade will catch it shooting it across your room. Haha. Then if you’re lucky enough they’ll have a little rubber drain plug sent to you from China. While I waited it to arrive after weeks of getting them To agree to send me one (it’s technically not listed as a part in the manual. So they don’t have to. I convinced them To . I used pro HVAC tape to go over the drain hole but every few days I have to drain it and then I pop it right back in. And it works as good as it did the first day. (Second season I’ve been using this )
