QuestionIs the fan continuously on? Or is the unit silent when not actively dehumidifying the air?

- Answer The unit fan does not run continuously. It only operates when the unit is actively removing moisture from the area. On a side note, last week we had massive rain and the basement flooded with several inches of water. Once it was drained the humidifier was turned back on and dried up the floor within 48 hours. It works great!

QuestionWhat diameter hose should I use to drain this 50 pint GE dehumidifer?

- Answer The hose connection will accept the standard hose connection. As the actual water flow out of the unit is very slow the diameter is not an issue. A half inch size hose, or smaller, will work just fine.

- Answer Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us at GE Appliances. We are happy to hear of your interest in this amazing dehumidifier. This is a great question and we are here to help. This model does not have a drain pump option but, it does have a drain hose option. Dehumidifiers have a drain connection which can be connected to a standard garden hose (not included). This allows collected water to continuously drain to a floor drain. The unit drains by gravity, so the hose needs to be laying flat on the ground and should be cut to the shortest length possible. To use: Remove the bucket from the front of the unit. Open the drain cover on the back of the unit. Thread a standard garden hose onto the drain nozzle. QuestionI have lost the manual and cannot figure out how to clean or replace the filter. I have tried to go online and print another but even though they say free there are fees. Where is the filter. Does it get cleaned or replaced? My model is ADEL50LYL1.

- Answer Pull out the water collection drawer in the front. Now feel up under the lip of the front panel and you will find the filter. It is thin and sits right behind the front panel. Pull it down to remove. Rinse under water until clear, air dry and replace by pushing it up into place. Put the water collection drawer back in tightly or else the machine will not run.

- Answer There is a nozzle for attaching a garden hose. Attach, cut to length, lead it to the drain.

QuestionI’m using a bucket and not a hose but when the bucket fills, the unit does not automatically turn off and I’ve had water overflowing so the unit just sits on wet carpet. I do not have it on the NS. How do I fix this? The carpet under it is always wet.

QuestionMy dehumidifier has been running for about 2 weeks & the water bin has what looks like black mold. The instruction booklet only says to swish with dish detergent & water to clean but that’s not getting rid of the black residue. Please help.

- Answer Dry the water bin and Try soaking in vinegar for a few minutes and then rinse. Vinegar helps to prevent mold.

- Answer Sounds like either the device is not set to a low enough level, the humidity in the room is already very low or the room is too big for the device to handle. Just guessing here. If none of these apply I would contact GE to troubleshoot.

QuestionCan I run the dehumidifier if it is laying on its side or back? I use a hose that will drain into a sump pump basin. I have some clearance issues and I would like to have the dehumidifier lay on its side or back while operating.

- Answer No. The compressor (refrigeration unit) needs to be upright. Plus, as the condensation drips, it will drip down, and not collect in the hose connections.
