Yes, as long as you are the account owner of the present number and have credentials to authorize the transfer you can keep the existing number. Also, Google Fi will reimburse you for the cost of the sim if you buy it from best buy.

If you want to keep your number you will need to go through the transfer process. I kind of think that the Google Fi service as a main provider is a little pricey and there are other flat rate providers out there. As for travel, it is perfect.

But personally, coverage perspective, it's not great in US...since it's borrowing Sprint/US-Cell or T-Mo network. I purchase this for international travel when I need to cross the countries.
