The length of the electrical cord is short to prohibit adding length to the exhaust tube. Lengthening the exhaust tube will result in moisture condensing inside and that will promote mold and mildew.

Please try again later.You are not supposed to use an extension cord because the exhaust tube should not be extended any longer than comes with the unit or it will accumulate moisture in the tube. Moisture in the tube breeds mold and mildew. As long as the tube is kept at the supplied length you should be fine. The short electrical cord limits how long the exhaust tube can be.

Plugging it into an extension cord rather than an actual wall outlet will cause the AC to shut off or not run properly, which can then cause damage to its inside. I actually plugged it into an extension cord before I knew not to, & it shut off all the power in the room. Definitely needs to be plugged into an outlet! Hope that helps.
