• The installation instructions offer a workaround to allow it to work with an oil furnace. Oil systems typically have only 4 wires and this model usually requires 5. However, the workaround allows you to use one of the four wires to be used if you allow the fan to run continuously. It is not the perfect solution, but can be done.

• Yes, I'm using this with an oil furnace. It was hooked up though by an HVAC Electrician. It's my understanding that not all thermostats work with all HVAC wiring setups, but I had two of these installed in my home and I have an oil furnace.
