• No, and Yes. You can set the thermostat manually without wifi and it will control the furnace. I checked by turning off my home wifi and changing the fan setting from the thermostat, to see if it would go on or off. I didn't try programming it, but suspect you can also do that from the thermostat. If you want to set and program the thermostat remotely with your phone, computer, etc. then you do need to have wifi, along with the free app that you can download for the appropriate device.

• Yes you do need Wi-Fi if you want to use the app, which is great because I can change the temp from anywhere. Loving this product.
