Print, Properties, Paper quality tab, Advanced tab, Under document Options & Print in Grayscale click Off, choose black Ink only or high quality grayscale, click OK, OK, OK.

Or you can do it by removing one of the ink cartridges (either color or black) and then printing anyway, also mentioned above. Both are valid ways to do this. If your black cartridge runs out and the store is closed and you really need to print, removing the black cartridge is a simple way to print your documents. The printer will do its best to print black with the color ink.

The single-cartridge mode is initiated when an ink cartridge is removed from the ink cartridge carriage. Install both the black and tri-color cartridges in the HP ENVY 4500 series to exit single-cartridge mode.
