• Rather than listening to someone else (even a 40-year IT veteran like me!), if you installed with the download straight from HP.com, it will install the online setup and user manual, which will help with everything, including the LCD icons.

• The three dots button is the copy options while the up and down carets allow you to set the number of copies you wish to make. The green icon starts the copying process while red cancels it. The one that looks like the three dots in a beaker shows if you have a supply (toner) error. None of the buttons starts a scan: You would need either the HP Smart app on your device to scan or the full-featured HP printing and scanning software if you do not wish to use the app on a Windows computer.
