I have this laptop not sure what the hp team member was thinking but there is an ethernet port on here

It doesn't come with an Ethernet port, but you can either connect wirelessly or you can get an adapter that takes the Ethernet cable and connects to one of the USB ports. A cooling pad isn't required, but it's a good investment to keep the internal temperatures down.
