I purchased this a few weeks ago. It can be plugged in via HDMI or optical. If you use the eArc HDMI port on the TV it can control volume with the existing TV remote and should power on with the TV as well. I have had a few passthrough issues though compared to my LG soundbar in the other room.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Our JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass has an auto-on feature. Once it detects a signal from the source, the unit will turn on. This is most useful when connecting to the TV using the optical cable, as most HDMI ARC connections enable this feature by default. The Bluetooth of this soundbar can only be enabled if the soundbar's source is set to Bluetooth, so you can use it without Bluetooth.
