No. You can use the Keurig without a water filter and use tap water, if you wish. I use filtered water from my fridge, or purified bottled water (which is more pure that tap water). It has more to do with eliminating any bad taste in the water than anything functional on the brewer.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The filter is used to make the coffee taste better. You're using filtered water, so I'd say why double filter it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You don't need water filters. I use sink water.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We have a filter on the frig. Nothing more is needed, but should descale regularly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The carbon water filter is necessary for longevity of the machine. I have the K2.0-200 Keurig and I’m going on 4+ years using with the water filter without the water seizing up the machine because I use tap water, which is not perfect but average. My other 2 Keurig lasted less than 2 years because no matter how often I cleaned it the minerals trapped in the unit would not release a full cup of water over time. If you buy pure filtered water which can be costly then I do not know if that saves your machine over a longer period of time.
