Wanted to answer for others that may have this question. Lenovo's answer is not accurate. After following all of Lenovo's instructions and suggestions, I was told I likely had a defective model and I went ahead and exchanged it for a new unit. However, just as the old one, the new unit got and stayed extremely hot at the bottom left immediately out of the box upon installing Windows updates. And when I say hot, I mean that at its worst, you CANNOT have it on your lap. Even when not at it's worst, the heat is quite uncomfortable and I find myself constantly trying to find ways to keep the bottom left off my legs. It has been about 30 minutes since installation and it is still very hot. The vent was not covered at any time. I wasted my time (and Lenovo and Best Buy money) exchanging units as the extreme heat is obviously an innate part of how this laptop runs. I searched the word "hot" in the reviews just now and found others noting the same issue. It's a shame because I'm quite picky and, even with some lagging/glitchiness occasionally and no HDMI port, I otherwise really like this laptop, particularly for the price when on sale. I will have to consider whether it is worth keeping knowing it will run so hot and require a lap desk if needed for lap use. I expect the heat will also decrease battery life over time (according to Lenovo's own information on factors that impact battery life). Buyer beware.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought this same computer back in March for my daughter when she started college in August of this year this computer has been nothing but problems since the day we took it out of the box. It keeps overheating and getting a blue screen saying that it overheated. Three times my daughter was doing an online test for school and it overheated on her Thank God the professor was good and let her retake the test. I called Best Buy and they said the return policy is out and I would have to deal with Lenovo so I called them and they were no help. The right thing to do is give me another model Lenovo the Yoga is terrible. I have other Lenovo laptops for my kids and wife and they all work good. THIS MODEL IS DEFECTIVE.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've the same model since April, and I've been having the same issues. Fans running full speed, CPUs @ 200+ degrees. No viruses. Lenovo Vantage and Diagnostics utility are all but useless. Tech support promises to send someone out, but they resolve the ticket before the problem has been addressed. Back and forth through tech support and service tickets, you end up wasting hours of time. BIOS updates don't resolve anything. Auto update function doesn't always work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Lenovo Yoga C740-15 should not run hot and Windows 10 should not crash. First, scan your computer for issues by using the Lenovo Utility software. Be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10 on the computer and that all of the BIOS files and drivers are updated to that latest version of Windows 10. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. Once you have updated any necessary files, be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programming errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.
