I have mine wired to the router. The router is in the basement wiring closet, with a considerable amount of metal duct work between it and the first and second floors. The extender is on the second floor wired via Ethernet to the router. I didn't even try to go with a wireless connection from the extender to the router. It works great hard wired. The extender provides a strong wireless signal through out the entire first and second floors. Since you mentioned that you have a signal dead spot and you have a handy Ethernet connection, I'd go that way. To go with a wireless connection between the router and the extender you would need to locate the extender where it can get a stable signal from the router.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi, surgi. You can hard-wire the Linksys RE9000 range extender and have a stable connection from the router but, the placement of the extender will be limited to the length of the Ethernet cable.
