This is one node. You activate it via the Linksys app & a smart phone. The numbers AC1200, AC1800 etc refer to square foot coverage ie. signal strength. Single nodes are available through Best Buy or direct.

We already had a 3-node Linksys mesh system in our 100-year-old house, but one room was not getting good coverage due to plaster-lath issues. So we just bought a single node (as pictured) and added it to our system. It was very easy and the internet NOWworks great in that problem room. All we had to do during set-up was to assign this node as either a "parent" (plugged into the modem and acting as the router) or as a "child" (an additional node in the system)...we chose "child." So, to me that indicates that the nodes are interchangeable depending on where you put them and how you assign them in set-up. Hope this helps.
