The M720 can connect via a Logitech Unifying receiver (the little USB dongle) and/or Bluetooth to three computers. There is a button on the side of M720 to change which computer it is currently communicating with. In other words, you can pair it with up to three computers, and switch between them without moving a USB plug around or re-pairing via Bluetooth. The M510 (which I also own) only works with a single computer, and only with a Logitech Unifying receiver: it does not do Bluetooth, and will only work with a single Unifying Receiver. The M510 is a symmetrical design, so works well for people who mouse with the left hand. The M720 is for the right hand.

I found that It is worth to spend 10 dollars more to get a M720 mouse if you want to frequently switch between multiple computers or devices at the same time. M510 does not have Bluetooth function It can only operate one computer. M720 has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi function so you can operate three computers at the same time.

The main difference is the easy switch technology- the mouse can connect to 3 different devices and switch between them with the push of the button by the thumb. It also can connect via Bluetooth or the included Unifying USB Receiver. There is also a gesture button under the thumb rest. By using the free Logitech Options software, you can customize that button to do nearly anything you want. The M720 Triathlon mouse is a much more advanced mouse than the M510.
