The portal makes a ringing sound and also lights up. If you say "hey portal answer" it will switch to that HDMI if your tv has HDMI CEC. It will also turn on your tv and select the correct HDMI. When done with call you simply say "hey portal hang up". If you also say "hey portal turn off" it will also turn off your tv. Only issue is it does not change back to the previous input when done with call. You have to manually select the correct input with your tv remote.

This is typically in your TV manual or on-screen menu. Regardless, don't worry if your HDMI input is already in use, the Portal TV unit has a speaker (as well as microphones) and will make an audible chime letting you know someone is trying to contact you.
