QuestionHow far can the extender be away from the router and still have maximum signal?

- Answer My router is in the front of the house and the extender is in the back of the house, around 40' apart with 3 walls in between. It shows max signal. I'm using it to get wifi to my block building that sets 8' behind our house. I can stream live tv (youtube tv) in that building using this. So far very impressed with it.

QuestionDoes the signal extender have to be "hardwired" to the router or does it extend the wifi signal it picks up?

- Answer You place the wifi extender close to your router during the one-time setup process. I used WPS which did everything over wifi. No wired connection from extender to router. After setup was complete, I moved the extender to the middle of my house. It works great for me. See my 5 star review entitled: Some Clarification for You.

Questionmy cable company only supplies a D3.0 modem. Will it work with this modem? or must I have a 3.1?

- Answer It will work with any modem. This is a WiFi mesh extender. It connects to your router to seamlessly extend your WiFi to a much greater area. The modem is irrelevant to how this product works.

- Answer Buy a good Router I got the Nighthawk. Ask a Best Buy salesperson who deals with that, better yet ask your internet provider which one they recommend. I have Xfinity and they have sales people in Best Buy who will help you select the best one. I GOT THE next to the TOP OF THE LINE. Then i got an extender for the back room. I HAVE A LOT OF THINGS HOOKED UP. AND PKENTY OF VISITING FAMILY, so I needed a good hookup.

- Answer It's not water proof or water resistant. So keeping that in mind it can absolutely be used outside as long as it's not exposed to water or snow. If the power chord is going to be outside then it should be plugged in to a GFCI outlet that is designed for in use connections.

- Answer Ring makes a wifi extender called a Ring Chime Pro for $50. This might be a cheaper solution for you. My configuration: One Ring Pro Doorbell, Three Ring Floodlight Cams, Two Ring Chime Pros. I have one chime pro in the garage and the other in my dining room. All cameras and doorbell are mounted on the outside of my 2900 sq. ft. single floor concrete block home.

- Answer I think it will certainly the area of access but not sure of the increase in signal strength - extender on extender, you may have to try it out and then decide if you want to keep X6S or return it.

QuestionI have comcast xfinity running at 250mbs and still have my Xfinity modem /router. Will Nighthawk Mesh work with Comcast and will it work placed in my basement connected via Ethernet. I tried Google wifi...dropped to 30mbs.

- Answer This will work with any provider. I used to have Xfinity, but now I have Verizon FiOS. If you connect via an Ethernet cable then you will not have to worry about any performance loss due to obstructions. You will not get the full 250Mbps but you should definitely get way more than 30Mbps. I am using mine with just the wireless feature (no Ethernet cable), and I am getting ~80Mbps and have several obstructions between the extender and main router (which is also a Nighthawk model). If I moved it in closer I would get well over 100Mbps, but 80Mbps meets my needs for this area of the house. If I directly connected it, it would be way faster, but never tested that and I have it a good 25 feet away on the top floor and my primary router is on the main level.

- Answer Yes, if the wire is coming from another router. This is an extender - it can extend your network wirelessly or by wire ( as an access point like you are suggesting). Keep in mind when you connect through wire, it will create a separate network whereas wirelessly, it would have extended the same network that is already in place from your original ISP router.

- Answer It may not allow you to get a full strength wifi signal the full distance you are looking for, but it may allow you to run a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable the remaining distance. Hardwired connections are the best for gaming, when you need a dedicated signal throughput use a cable, if you can.

- Answer I have Comporium that supplies my internet, cable TV and its modem has Wifi on both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHZ bands. The Nighthawk Mesh X6S Tri-Band WiFi Mesh Extender picks up both bands and sets them up to have the same SSIDs so no matter if you roam, you go seamlessly to whatever the signal strength is the greatest. You go through a Netgear set up page with your browser. You have to set up an account with Netgear which is free. See the photo below of what it looks like after completion. If you have a signal strength app on your smart phone, you can mover the Nighthawk around to find the best spot for coverage.
