I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but most internet providers will provide a modem that allows you to connect to the internet. Often the modem they provide is a combination modem and router [allowing you to both connect to the internet, and create a home network for your various technologies...PCs, Cellphones, Tablets, Gaming systems, etc.] They often provide these as part of their package [essentially you are renting them from the provider]. I have not heard of MetroNet, so I don't know their policies. I can only relay my limited experience in such matters. If you want to save a little money on equipment rental from your provider, you can purchase your own modem and router, either separately or as a combo. I bought my own and got the modem and router each separately, instead of a combo modem and router. I don't know your situation; but in my case, I bought a separate modem and router because I know if one component goes bad, it often affects the other. Buying both pieces of equipment separately does cost more initially, but can save some frustration later. In my case buying them separately was a good thing to do, since I have already had to replace the router I bought in July with a new one, but the modem I bought at the same time is still working fine. It all depends on what you feel is the best choice for you.
