A:AnswerChioe, I had a different model DVD/CD player that did the same thing. It would just keep saying on the screen reading. A friend of
mine works in an electronics shop. He said for me to do two things. First buy a DVD/CD cleaning machine (their cheap) online
and Best Buy has them in their catalog. Follow the instructions and clean the DVD or CD really good. Then next, take a Q-tip.
Put three or four drops of 70 percent rubbing alcohol on one end of the Q-tip. Leave the other end dry. Quickly before the rubbing
alcohol evaporates, gently in a circular motion clean the glass laser lens that reads the bottom of the DVD or CD. In a circle motion
clean it in a clockwise motion, then quickly use the dry end of the clean Q-tip to buff the lens in a clockwise direction. Use a little flashlight
so you can see what your doing. six or seven circles in each direction will be plenty. Then take a regular straw and blow through the straw
pointing the end of the straw a couple of inches away from the lens. This will remove any Q-tip cotton fuzz that may have been left on the lens.
After I did this to mine, it said reading when I put in a CD and then it went to the first track, a pushed play and it worked perfectly. He said to
also before you clean the lens, take your blow dryer, place the setting on cool only...high speed...and blow out any dust or fuzz that had gotten down
into the chamber where the laser lens and the DVD and CD disk area is under the lid. That area, the lens, and your DVD's & CD's MUST be clean at all times.
If this doesn't work he said that it will have to be sent back to Philips for repair. Or you can call any electronics store in your area that repairs TV's
and ask them if they repair portable 9" DVD-CD players. Good Luck.
A:AnswerHi Cindy, I know what you mean about the DVD/CD player making a motor noise when your playing a CD or watching a movie. Most of them out there do.
But the Philips 9" DVD'CD player does not. There are very few manufactures of these units anymore for some reason. And all of them are of poor
quality. Except for the Philips. I tried three other brands and I returned all three of the pieces of junk. But I have been extremely pleased with the Philips.
Hopefully someday Sony and Samsung will come out with a unit. But for now go with the Philips. But you will have to buy an external speaker to get a decent
sound. The built in speakers are of very poor quality and the volume is very poor to. You can go to Best Buy or online and spend around thirty to sixty dollars
and buy a rechargeable mini speaker that has a 3.5mm audio jack with it. These little speakers are powerful. I paid fifty seven dollars for mine online and it
sounds as good as my sisters $199.00 Bose mini speaker. Just make sure that the speaker comes with the 3.5mm line jack, and the charger to charge up the
battery. Many do not. They want you to buy the charger extra which I say No! And you can use the power cord charger that comes with the Philips to run it on
a regular electrical outlet. That's how I mainly use mine. Because I use it sometimes all day. And when fully charged you get about 5 to 6 hours of runtime from
just the battery. The battery drains faster watching a movie than it does playing a music CD. I'm going to recommend a mini speaker to you that is outstanding.
It's the one that I bought and you won't be disappointed. And it comes with the 3.5mm line jack, case, charger, owners guide, and you can even sync it with your
smart phone if you have one. It's Bluetooth compatible, and I believe after it is fully charged up you can get around 16 hours of speaker time before the next charge.
There's a place below this area where Best Buy is kind enough to allow another product recommendation. I hope I've helped. Mine is the black box shaped one.
