Yes. You plug the device into your phone then you are able to transfer MOST media in your photo app. I say “most” simply because I am unaware of format compatibilities. Transfer is as quick as it would be for any high speed usb transfer. Think photos from pc transferring to external hard drive kind of speeds. You can also put the photos back at a later time. You can also manage files on your phone and on the usb storage from the app that accompanies the device. One of my favorite tech purchases by far. I downgraded my storage space when I purchased a new phone and wanted to save pics. iCloud for PC simply wasn’t cooperating. This device makes life so much easier. And if you find that for you it’s not so convenient, then just return it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.yes, you can create a folder on the drive and transfer copy pictures first then videos and after it's all copy you can delete from iphone to clear space
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. So if i can hear the real question! "for now only"? I see no reason why the pics and video stay on the external drive. I have stored many pics on these drives. I needed to buy a different one this time for the Iphone. Works great! also took pics off the laptop. It was simple to transfer but they do not erase off phone ,you have to do that. hope that answers your question . By the way, I love mine.
