No subscription is needed, BUT you can't store data, without having a "subscription." With one, you can store up to 60 days worth of recordings. Check the Ring website for details.

Out of the box, your Ring Indoor Camera is designed to keep you connected to your home in real time, no matter where you are. The optional Ring Protect Plan is available for as little as $3/month per device. With this, videos of each ring, motion, and live view event are stored in the cloud, allowing you to review, share, and save them at your leisure. Without a plan, you will still receive real time motion and ring alerts, as well as have access to the Ring Live View feature. If you are having trouble accessing Live View quickly enough, try downloading the Rapid Ring app. Rapid Ring app works in conjunction with your regular Ring app, but enables you to get notifications faster and respond faster. Here is a helpful article that describes our Protect Plans in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001671383-General-Information-on-Ring-Protect-Subscription-Plans. Ring Community launched in March 2019 to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our customers. This peer-to-peer forum allows our neighbors to share their feedback and experiences. You can find other useful information at https://community.ring.com/ for the Ring Indoor Camera.
