A:Answer Brand new out of the box I put thru 4 years of tax returns. There were about 20 paper sheets per year, so I ran thru 4 sheets at a time. I did not time how long it ran but I would guess 15 minutes, then the over heat switch shut it down. I had almost finished the fourth year when it over heated, after a hour I returned and finished. Since then I have only used it 3 times a week for a couple of minutes and it works fine, if you pace yourself and don't overdue it will keep going. It is not a office shredder it's for light duty home use.
