QuestionCan it be vented to the outside?This would replace an existing microwave that is vented to the outside and I want the replacement to work with the existing vent.

QuestionHow loud / annoying is the exhaust fan and is 400cfm do a good job?My existing unit is a 3 speed fan I don't know the cfm. But it is sooo loud & annoying on any speed and really doesn't do a good job in venting out the odors.

- Answer The fan on this microwave is very good. It has 4 speeds, the highest speed is very loud, but we rarely go above the 2nd setting and it vent and cleans the air well.

QuestionIs there a nightlight feature that auto turns on and off like on my GE Profile?We set ours to auto go on at 7 pm and off at 6 a.m. Does this have that feature?

QuestionWhere is the vent on SMH1816 model.I have read in this thread that the exhaust on this model can be vented interior and is concealed. So, where does the vent open? Just wondering! Looking at the pictures of this model, the vent is really not visible.

- Answer The SMH1816 can be set up to vent outside from the rear or top of the unit, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room from vents located on the front top edge of the microwave. The vents are angled out into the room to help protect the front of the cabinets. - Ms. Samsung

QuestionIs there any way to make the light brighter on the over-the-range microwave SMH1816S ( the one under the unit that lights the top of the range)?

- Answer Thank you for the question. The SMH1816S features high and low settings for the cooktop light, which uses a 40-watt bulb. The light cannot be made any brighter than the "high" setting allows. - Ms. Samsung

- Answer Samsung's SMH1816 is part of the 2011 line-up and offers many of the same features as the SMH9187 including a 1.8 cubic foot capacity oven, 1100 watts of power and a 400 cfm exhaust fan. A new feature that has been added to this new model is "Eco Mode" which enables you to turn off the display when it isn't in use thereby saving energy. Thanks for your interest, Ms. Samsung

QuestionOver the range samsung micro light is too dimI have the Samsung microwave over the range smh1816s . The 40 watt bulb it came with is too dim. Can I buy a brighter 40 watt bulb? I rely on a bright light, and would need to return the micro if this us as bright as it gets!

- Answer New over-the-range, built-in Samsung microwave’s counter light (40 watt) was too dim + heated the metal cabinet to the point that it would burn you if touched it! I went to our local lighting store & purchased a 60 watt LED bulb + an adapter to enlarge the base as it was too small, & it’s working GREAT! This LED bulb is dimmable so the low/high setting works A-OK) We have 50% more light now, using less electricity & the bulb is cool to the touch. Win-win-win! Adapter: Damar 03182A & Bulb: Damar 38612A Samsung should stop using the 40 watt bulb that they currently provide. (IMHO)

- Answer The minimum height of the microwave is actually based on the distance between the cooktop and the cabinet above it, rather than the height of the grates which can vary. The SMH1816 is designed to be mounted under a cabinet that is 30" or more from the cooktop, so the bottom of the microwave should be at least 13-1/2" from the cooking surface. - Ms. Samsung

- Answer Yes, it comes with a wall bracket and all mounting hardware. It also includes mounting templates, so it's pretty idiot-proof to get the installation holes drilled in the correct place.

- Answer The microwave comes complete with a charcoal filter, so, no, you do not have to get an additional kit. FYI - GE microwaves do not come with this filter, and it's quite costly to order it. That was final determining factor which made me choose the Samsung over GE.

QuestionDo you have to buy a kit for it to vent internally?I do not have an external vent and want to recirculate the air. Your online instructions state you must buy a separate kit, is that true?

- Answer No, what you will have to do is orient the internal fan to blow in the right direction to vent back into the kitchen. This involves removing a couple of screws, removing the fan blade assembly, turning it like 90 degrees and reinstalling it. The instructions are good for this.

Questionbutton sequence to startI had a Panasonic microwave that started with "enter cook time, press start" which I liked a lot, especially in comparison to another microwave I had that started with "enter cook time, press time, press start". Simply stated, I hate that extra unnecessary step of "press time"!! So how do you start a SMH1816?

- Answer The coated metal rack in the SMH1816W is specially designed and fitted so it can be used in the microwave as long as it is resting on the wall supports and does not come in contact with the walls of the microwave while it is running. - Answer The SMH1816S microwave requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit in order to function properly, but it's fine to plug it into your current 120V/60Hz grounded 3-prong outlet as long as nothing else is plugged into it at the same time. Thanks for your interest, Ms. Samsung

- Answer Thanks for the question. The wall outlet should not be located directly behind the microwave since it will obstruct the ability of the unit to sit flush with the wall which is necessary in order for it to attach to the mounting bracket. - Ms. Samsung
