Excellent question! The french doors have a flap that automatically slides between them to seal the doors shut. This means you can open either door by itself, or both in either order. ^Jecca

The right hand side closes with ease, but if you only open the left , all you have to do is give it a firm push. That is because that is where the seal is. I am so thankful for this refrigerator. I thought it might be too big, but it is perfect! Everything stays cold. I am amazed at how well the fresh produce keeps - a lot longer than I am use to. Also, the freezer is great. The ice maker works as it should and freezer storage is good. If I was rating this on a scale of 1-10, it would be above 10. Very please with the product and with Best Buy installation.
