Questionwhat are usb 3.1 Gen 2 type-a/type-c ?

- Answer The USB standards have evolved for a couple of decades. There are specifications that define the operation and connectivity of devices that conform to the specifications. If you "Google" USB 3.1, you will likely see a good explanation of the latest standard. From a practical perspective, 3.1 Gen 2 is faster than prior generations. Type A and C refer to the stye of the connector. Type A is the squared edge rectangular USB connector we all know and have used for many years....about 1/2" wide and perhaps 1/8" high. Type C is the latest connector type and is much smaller with rounded corners and it is reversible, so it doesn't matter which way is up...both ways work just fine. You may remember mini-USB and micro-USB from prior generations and many mobile phones and cameras...the latter sometimes being a bit difficult to determine which way is up. USB-C solves that problem. Compact and reversible.

- Answer You can use the Sandisk SecureAccess software. It will provide password protection and encryption. The first time you use the drive you will be prompted to download the software. It is optional. It is exactly what you are asking for. Good Luck

- Answer If connecting ssd using usb c via extenttion to older usb, MAKE SURE the arrows are facing, otherwise the connection will not be solid, and ssd will not show up. While us b c to us b c connects either way the same is not true for connecting it to an extension.

However, please note that you might not get optimal data transfer speeds when connected to a USB interface older than USB 3.1 Gen 2.

- Answer First thing I did when I got the SSD was to plug it in to my Android USB C device. The phone automatically formatted the SSD into exfat format. I was able to very quickly upload 10 months of photos and videos eqhating to about 76 GBs data between my phone and my wife's phone of family memories. Then I use the USB 3.1 adapter for PC that was provided in the packaging and connect my pc to it. This adapter works fantastic and was very fast even with my computer having only a USB 3.0 connection. The drive is very fast. I was surprised at how fast the SSD was compared to my mechanical hard drive. This was definitely faster than the high speed micrI sd, even when connected directly into my computer. I was able to quickly compress videos and photos directly on the SSD. This was definitely worth the trip to the store pickup.

- Answer Yes, its present in the ssd for windows. For mac- there is a pdf in there which points to the url where you can get the mac software.

- Answer It comes formatted in exFAT which can be read/written by a PC and a Mac. If you are planning on using it on both a PC and a Mac I would leave it the way it is.

- Answer It could. Most TV will just require you to format the drive a certain way and only allow for certain drive sizes. So it is really dependent on your TV. But I would not recommend a drive such as this for the task. As I do now know of any TV that can take advantage of USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds. Just read your TV manual for formatting, size limitations, and theoretical speed caps.

QuestionI am looking for a long term storage drive. Like pictures that you put in a BOX AND PUT IT IN A CLOSET FOR YEARS TO COME. Will this be something that will no longer be supported in the coming years? Can it fail from not being used?

- Answer I first used my SSD to backup my iPad photos, ALL 4,250 of them. As time progresses all media seems to be getting a slightly shorter time stamp / life expectancy before it requests we update to the next / newer version. I've only had my SSD for about 6 weeks after falling in love with its super compact design and massive memory. It runs silent because of no moving parts and doesn't vibrate in the least. I'm backing up my MacBook Pro and iPad to it because I am well aware of potential crashing and am not taking any chances in my profession as a graphic artist. Your question is an open one to be decided by the billionaires who wield the controllers of mass media. But so far, I use my SSD at least 5 days a week in saving and transferring files for at least 3 to 5 hours at a time. It works for me, and I trust it.

QuestionWhy does it show 400 GB of storage is used when there are only 200 GB being used. My model is a 500GB one and I have this problem where things inside the disk don't add up to the total storage used.

If your XBOX allows playing games that are installed on an externally connected disk drive, then you should be able to play games on your XBOX using this SSD Drive. - Answer I was able to use this SSD as an external drive for PS5 only through the USB-C port on the front side of the console. It has worked without issues so far.
