Yes, when it docks it self empties into the canister.

Vac is auto emptied into the base, base is manually emptied to the trash.

It does empty when it returns to its base automatic after 30mins but there’s is no dirt sensor on the shark” low iQ “ so when it’s full it stops functioning and don’t go back to base to empty itself you have to carry it back to its base to reset and empty itself. I return this item and got the roomba i7+ (On sale- $699) which has a dirt sensor and multi level function.

If the Shark vac says model RV1001AE, the AE in the model number tells you the vac comes with the tower and is self emptying.

It is self emptying and it even prompts you to empty the bin when needed. It is a bit loud, sort of has that vacuum sound, when emptying, but if that is an issue I would recommend placing the dock with bin in a secluded area of your home.

This model is self emptying which I love and it will prompt you when the bin needs emptying.
