There are three levels (Hard floor, Low carpet, & High carpet). The vacuum has a pretty powerful rotor system that will move a large pile and has picked up everything I've thrown at it. The selection for the floors reduces the spin speed so you wont be ripping carpet apart. The suction power is impressive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No it does not. I have a very nice shag area rug and this does not like cleaning it at all. The pile selector switch is nothing more than an air valve to decrease suction...the higher the pile setting the lower the amount of suction. Also the rollers cannot handle the thicker pile and often stop rolling and cause the red light to come on. My other complaint is the stupid foam filter under the dust bin. You have to wash it constantly and I believe this will fail in 6 months of use. The foam is soft and is degrading after only 3 months of use. Replacement filters are recommended by Shark every year and cost about 20 bucks with shipping. So i spent 450 dollars and now every year I have to spend 20 more and wash a foam filter every other time I use this??? I am returning it.
