QuestionDoes the box use home internet data when watching the slingbox from another location?I live in Alaska, and we don't have unlimited internet like there is in the Lower 48 states. If my husband is out of town for work, in the lower 48, and accesses the slingbox, of course he will be using the internet in his location. However, during the time that he is watching our DVR, would our data usage at home, where the slingbox is connected, go up as well?

- Answer Yes, It will use your upload to send the video from Alaska to wherever you log in from. The only time it doesn't have to do that is if you're at home on the same network.

QuestionWill my Michigan based Sling box work on a PC in Canada?If I have a sling box hooked up to my cable box in Michigan and I want to watch it through a TV hooked to a PC when I visit Canada will it work? Some internet sites are not available in Canada, example Hulu.

QuestionDoes Slingbox work with U-verse receivers/DVRs?I noticed one complaint in the customer ratings about incompatibility with U-verse. Does Best Buy or Slingbox have any information about this? I am a U-verse subscriber, and have no plans to change (I was a 13 year Dish sub, but couldn't get HD via Dish, so out it went...), so I would like to know before I spend $300 on this and it doesn't work.

- Answer Yes, this will work on the U-Verse DVRs. Slingbox has the remotes for the boxes and it works properly.

QuestionSlingbox M1 vs 500I am looking to buy a slingbox to be able to watch Detroit sports while living in Chicago. I plan on putting it at my brothers house on a tv he rarely uses. I will be using my apple tv to stream it on my home TV. Does anyone know that the major difference is between the M1 and the 500? For what I am planning to use it for, is it worth the extra money to step up to the 500 or should I go with the M1.

- Answer My Slingbox 500 is connected to a DirecTV Genie DVR. I can do everything remotely that I can do when I'm sitting at home in front of the system. In my setup, when I connect remotely I have full access all of the DirecTV remote control functions so I can stream anything in my playlist, delete anything in my playlist, fast forward, rewind, pause, add new shows to record, etc.

Questionone sling box- 2 different viewing locationsI want to be clear before I buy-- If I buy the sling box and set it up in my home...can my 2 college sons watch the same local show at their colleges located in 2 different states? Please don't tell me I have to buy 2 boxes......I don't mind 2 subscriptions.....just let me know in layman's terms how to go about it

- Answer The easy answer is yes. One can log in to the Slingbox as owner and the other as guest. BUT, with only one Slingbox and one cable box, they WILL have to watch the same show. In other words, it's like having one TV in the house that is viewable in two other places.

- Answer Possibly, depending on the content being watched and how the Slingbox is set up in your home. Some on-demand content may be protected using a form of DRM (digital rights management) called HDCP (high-bandwidth copy protection), which may prevent you from streaming the video if your setup uses HDMI. You can work around this, in most cases, by making sure to use component cables from your satellite receiver to the Slingbox, and the same from the Slingbox to the TV. - Answer I'm told the answer is no. I'm trying to use google tv (which now comes with slingplayer or what I consider a reasonable facsimile) to play it back on a regular tv and its pretty crumby. if youre able to download slingplayer to your tv you might be able to try. even then I received error messages that are not on the website and youll need to call slingbox customer service to decipher those. there also seems to be a necessity requiring network conditions to be optimal on both ends or picture quality will be sub par, lots of pausing when using remote control functions too, takes the fun out of it. I do not know why some or all these companies cannot come to an agreement so we can watch content we pay for monthly on a regular tv ( and not a tablet, smartphone or laptop, which dont get me wrong can be ok sometimes) with out the necessity for 3rd party services like hulu. I'm already able to dvr anything I want to watch and I should be able to watch it anywhere I want and not just at home because that is where my dvr resides

- Answer We have had sling since 2004. The Sling is connected to one TV but we can watch it on any computer - one computer at a time. What we did is connected our older sling to one TV and the upgrade one from Best Buy to another TV - so each person can watch what they want on their computer. Sling asks for a name for it - so we named each one different, that's how we can call them up separately.

- Answer Yes, the slingbox 500 works flawlessly with my Tivo Premier Elite! I'm able to watch all my recorded programs on either my Samsung Galaxy S4 or my IPad. Get it, you'll love it. And a lot easier to set up than the older models. It was a breeze!

- Answer Yes the Slingbox M1 will work with a Tivo Mini. The Tivo Mini has Component/RCA output ports and cables that are specially designed for it's smaller size which are compatible with the Slingbox M1.

- Answer Yes when you are hooked up to a large tv it will show what you are streaming through the ipad, but once you connect to the tv your ipad will go black and it will solely stream through the tv. Hope that helps

- Answer If you have a digital set top box, it should operate that just fine. It'll emulate the remote. I'd check the website to see if the box you have is listed as compatible just to be sure! Purchase somewhere like BestBuy to allow easy return if it does not work out!

- Answer Yes, you will. When you connect to your Slingbox, you're shown an on-screen virtual remote that mirrors the look and functions of your physical remote (for most devices). So, you'll be able to turn the set-top box back on as long as the remote has a power button.
