• A:Answer We had the same request. It would not have been difficult to cut it, but the installer from BestBuy told us that he was not allowed to cut the hose down, and we were stuck with 8' of hose being folded up and twisted behind the dryer. We'll have to call someone to come fix it. (I'm too old now to be climbing over and behind appliances! LOL!)

Q: QuestionWhen the installers installed this vent hose, they ran it up then ran it back down so it basically in a half loop so it would free up room behind the dryer (so it could be pushed closer to wall) as to opposed to running it straight horizonal. Is this ok?

• A:Answer That is a very inefficient installation. Not only does it force your dryer to work harder to push the moist air out, but it can create a build-up of lint, which can eventually become a fire hazard. Most dryers have an indented space that allows the vent hose to be installed in a straight line without taking more than a few inches behind the dryer. When our washer was installed, the installer ran a similar loop with the drain hose so that it showed over the top of the machine, in spite of the fact that there were slots on the back of the washer for the drain hose. I asked him to move it, and he pushed it down a bit, but after he left we fixed it ourselves.

Q: QuestionWhy is this dryer kit needed?I'm replacing a dryer and I received this kit. Because of this kit my new dryer is about 6 or more inches away from the wall. Is this kit required? Can I use a regular vent hose? Using a regular vent hose I could push my dryer further back to the wall matching the location of the washer.

Q: QuestionAfter having this vent kit installed my dryer sticks out an extra 6" like the guy said it would. However he didn't use the 2 elbows and I like to know if he used those would I be able to push this dryer closer to the wall so it's even with the washer ?

• A:Answer Elbow would have prevented my install from mashing the duct when they pushed it in; so I didn't notice it fell off until they had left. They didn't even use the kit I purchased. And they also didn't ground the cord so they destroyed my new dryer. Will never trust another installer, have to double check everything.

• A:Answer You can use this kit to direct the exhaust from the back to an outlet off to the side, but it will not change where the dryer itself exhausts. This is a universal install kit. A side vent kit is typically manufacturer-specific.

Q: QuestionCan the installers just use the ducting and clamps and not use the elbows from this kit? I have direct access through the wall to the outside. My old dryer never had elbows. Just a straight 4 inch duct hose. I only have 32 or so inches dept.

Q: QuestionI have 34 inches available depth in my laundry closet for the dryer and the vent. The dryer has a depth of 30 inches. Are 4 inches enough for the installers to hook this up or should I look into buying a more flexible vent?

• A:Answer I would say it depends if your dryer outlet is at the same height as the hole going outside. If you have to do a S-Curve to lead outside I would say get the vinyl more flexible type. Mine was a straight shot and worked perfect because it held its shape when I pushed the dryer back to the wall and continued to feed thru the hole on its own.
