  • QuestionHow many watts per channel?

    Asked by JoeyT.

    • Answer This question is more complicated than one might expect. The Sony website spec states: 100W into 2 channels driving two 6ohm speakers. Since most (not all) speakers are 8 ohm-speakers, the power output of the AN1000 driving 8 ohm speakers would be more like 85W/channel into 2 channels. The complication comes when people assume the statement on the box: 165W x7 means 165W/per ch (7 ch). This would have to be more like 165W spread out over 7 channels. Basically, 165W shared across all active channels. Keep in mind: Surrounds and height channels do not need quite as much power as your fronts and are often smaller speakers. Also: The lion's share of power-demand comes from bass which for most people will be a powered sub-woofer with its own 100W amplifier built into it. Now that's out of the way, sound quality should not be measured in watts. There is so much more to sound quality than how many watts the amp is rated at. If you have a large room and plan to host parties with loud music, then you might need more power. If you are watching movies in a normal size living room all 7 ch. driven, I feel comfortable saying you will be quite happy with this receiver. I purchased the AN1000 a couple of days ago to replace my aging (legendary) Sony DN1080 which I have loved the past 10+ years. The AN1000 is an improvement in many ways, but the number of watts per channel are rated exactly the same: 100W X 2 into 6ohms.

  • QuestionDoes the RCA upscale inputs such as a Wii and a PS2? Or would it be better to buy something that upscales it and then put it in through HDMI?

    Asked by Neel.

    • Answer Hi Neel, Great question! The STRAN1000 will not upscale RCA input. You would have to use an HDMI Cable from the device. We can't guarantee that third party adapters will work correctly with the product. Hope this helps. Erin Experience breathtaking 8K video and immersive 3D audio with our new 7.2-channel 8K receiver. • QuestionSince the Sony STR-AN1000 receiver doesn’t have a phono input and my turntable doesn’t have a built-in preamp, what will I need to enable these two to work together?

    Asked by Need2knowATL.

    • Answer You need to buy a pre-amp for your phono and plug the output of that to one of the audio inputs (Aux). Pre amps are pretty cheap these days.

  • Questionwill all of the receiver functions on the Sony STR-AN1000 work with my harmony logitech remote control

    Asked by brimusic.

    • Answer No they won't. The Harmony database identifies the an1000 but the IR codes it uses don't work. You can setup the harmony by having the hub learn the an1000 inputs and then you will have basic power and volume and input controls - but that is all.

  • QuestionMust all the speakers have the same ohm rating?

    Asked by Crash7.

    • Answer Hi Crash7, thank you for your question. Ohms is a rating that refers to the restriction of power, or impedance. The higher the ohm rating, the more impedance is applied to the flow of power. Most home receivers and speakers are rated 4, 6 or 8 ohms. The exact rating can be found on the unit. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver. The STRAN1000 supports 6 ohms, 1 kHz, 1ch, THD 0.9%. Experience breathtaking 8K video and immersive 3D audio with our new 7.2-channel 8K receiver. • QuestionHow do I tune the FM tuner? It sits on 87.50

    Asked by Scott.

    • Answer Press the Home button on the receiver's remote, select Listen, then the FM tuner. The FM channels can be changed and programmed by selecting Options on the remote. There are 30 presets to program FM stations. Use the up/down toggle buttons in the center of the remote to select a preset channel to program. Press the Options nutton. Select the Preset Memory by pressing the center button on the remote. You will need to use the left button to select the FM channel, 87.5 by default. Once the channel is selected, press the up or down button to change the channel for Auto Tuning. Press the center button to lock-in the station to that preset number. Repeat to program your remaining FM stations. The receiver will automatically advance to the next preset channel after a station is programmed. If you want to change the name of the channel, e.g., FM1, FM2, etc. to the station's call sign, e.g., WQFM, or Rock, Jazz, etc, use the "Preset Name Input"

  • Questiondoes using wireless speakers (surround back) disable that input on the receiver? or can I still hook up another speaker and make it 9.2?

    Asked by HonduranHomey.

    • Answer Sorry but No. When you add wireless speakers, they take the place of wired counterpart. The AN1000 is a 7.2 or a 5.2.2 and you cannot get past that with the AN1000. Step up Sony models allow for more channels. Example: The AZ1000ES allows you to add an extra amp and add 2 more channels. The processor in the AZ1000 can support 9.2, but the AN1000 can only support 7.2. For full support of 9.2 you need to jump up to the AZ3000 or higher.
